Roon fails to open post-update, stuck on 'waiting for Roon' (ref#9W3PTM)

Hello @cellist.rosenthal,

I completely understand your frustration. Being locked out of your music system right after an update is never a good experience.

What happened: Recent updates to the Roon architecture introduced new underlying system and security requirements. Unfortunately, the native QNAP operating system environment can no longer support these modern software libraries directly. As a result, the traditional QNAP Roon app (the QPKG version you have been using) will no longer start after this update, which is why your remotes are stuck “waiting for Roon.”

The Solution: To get Roon running smoothly again, you will need to transition your Roon Server to QNAP’s Container Station (which uses Docker). Running Roon inside a container safely isolates it from the QNAP OS limitations, providing it with all the necessary libraries to run optimally. The best part is that this will prevent future QNAP updates from breaking your Roon Server!

Next Steps: You will need to install Container Station from the QNAP App Center and set up the Roon image. We have a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to walk you through this process here:

Once you have the container spun up, your remotes will immediately find the server on your network and you will be back in business. Please review the guide, and let us know if you hit any roadblocks during the setup process—we are here to help!
