Roon installation flagged as unsafe and fails on Windows 11 due to file corruption (ref#0CCIEW)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

Tell us what's going on

· Had much trouble uninstalling ROON as I thought it was corrupted. I finally got it removed from Windows 11 hoping a new download would work. It didn't. I keep getting the "unsafe" warning when it is downloaded and the pictures show the garbage that is in the download. Never had any serious problem with Roon until now when it wouldn't import my files on a USB hard drive and now I can't even get it installed again

Hi @doug_ward, welcome to the community.

That sounds like two separate problems, the installer being flagged as unsafe, and Roon no longer importing from your USB drive.

For the Windows installer issue, we should first confirm that the download itself is intact and not being altered by a browser or security tool. Please try downloading Roon again from our site, then check whether Windows SmartScreen or your antivirus is the thing marking it unsafe. If you can, compare the file size or capture the exact warning text you see before opening it.

On the library side, if Roon can be installed again, we’ll want to look at the USB drive path and whether the files are still visible to Windows with the same drive letter. A changed drive letter or an unreadable folder can stop Roon from importing even when the drive is connected.

To get a clearer picture, could you tell us:

  • Whether the installer warning comes from Windows SmartScreen, your browser, or antivirus software
  • Whether the USB drive is still showing up in Windows with the same drive letter and folder path
  • What type of files Roon stopped importing, for example FLAC, ALAC, or MP3

If you can also attach the screenshot of the unsafe warning and any install error message, that would help.

Hi @doug_ward,

Our diagnostic servers indicate that you might have successfully used Roon on the affected Windows instance since last posting. Are we correct to assume that you’ve resolved this issue? The thread will auto-close shortly without any further response from the OP, so please reach out if you require further assistance. Thanks!

This is still an ongoing issue

Hi @doug_ward,

It’s unclear if you’ve run through my above reply, let me know if you’re able to run through the above and share your findings.

Thank you!

I appreciate your efforts but I purchased another WD My Book and I will be running one on the Nucleus for Roon and its twin on the PC for Maestro. I am not comfortable going deep into computer settings and doing a bunch of stuff that rarely shows as intended.

Still do not understand how this problem originated to begin with. I certainly did not make any changes.
