Roon iPadOS client issues with external monitor on iPad Pro (ref#KNWNGG) [Ticket in]

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· None of the above quite fits

Tell us what's going on

· Roon iPadOS client behaves strangely when iPad Pro is connected to external monitor. Specifically, it adopts the resolution and aspect ration of the connected monitor, fails to render the home screen, and presents an incomplete navigation bar on left. This happens whether the client is on the iPad display or the connected display. This is just a bug report for future prioritization.

Hello @ExUnoPlura

Thanks for the report, and for writing it up as clearly as you did.

To get this in front of the right people with enough detail to act on, could you please tell us:

  1. The exact iPad Pro model and its iPadOS version.
  2. The monitor make and model, with its resolution and refresh rate.
  3. How the iPad is connected to it: USB-C directly, through a hub or dock, or wirelessly.
  4. Whether Stage Manager is on or off when this happens.
  5. Whether the external display is set to mirror the iPad or extend it.
  6. Whether the layout corrects itself when you disconnect the monitor, or whether Roon has to be restarted.

If you can reproduce it, please note the date, time and your timezone, and then leave Roon open on the iPad for a few minutes afterwards. That lets us collect diagnostics from the device and see what the app measured for the display.

  1. iPad Pro 13-inch M4, iPadOS 26.6.1
  2. Apple Studio Display 27-inch (2025 model), 5120 x 2880, firmware Version 17.0 (Build 21A329), scaled to 2048 x 1152. Refresh rate on this display does not appear even with Option click on scaling (Edit: this model was 60Hz). Original report was on Studio Display 2026 model with 120Hz mode on, however.
  3. USB-C directly
  4. Stage Manager is off
  5. Extend it
  6. Killing the app and disconnecting resets the UI layout. Disconnecting without killing app transfers bad layout back to iPad Pro screen. Killing it again fixes it. Contrary to original report, starting Roon on iPad Pro display does work consistently now. The glitch only appears when transferring to Apple Studio Display or starting it on Apple Studio Display

I’ve added some screen shots showing two variants of glitchiness:

Hi @ExUnoPlura, thank you, that is a complete set of answers.

Your point 6 is the most useful part. That disconnecting without quitting carries the broken layout back to the iPad, and that quitting clears it, narrows this down considerably, and it matches what we found on our side. We have raised a ticket for this behavior with your configuration, the Studio Display resolutions and your reproduction steps attached.

On priority. This is the only report we have of it, and it takes a specific combination to appear: an M4 iPad Pro, a Studio Display over USB-C, extended rather than mirrored, and the app either started on the external display or moved to it. Work is prioritized largely by how many people are affected, so a narrow configuration sits behind broader ones. We do not have a timeframe.

Fixes are announced in the release notes, so that is the place to watch:

In the meantime, quitting the app after you disconnect is the reliable way to get the layout back.

We are closing this thread here, since there is nothing further to gather.
