I found this somewhat concerning.

Just a idea… wouldn’t it be cool if Harman would purchase Tidal and make it an integral part of a Roon bundle?
No not really.
What we might see from Tidal though is a move to have Connect as the only way to use their service on gear to minimise support. Tbh I see this as the only way any of these services will continue to work and the api approach currently will go. Financially it makes sense as less to support, at moment they support two models which each vendor uses which in all honesty is costing them. Qobuz will go this way when they finally get it sorted.
Comment of the day! Would be awesome.
Yet another reason to be glad I chose Qobuz.
I disagree - there are already ways to monetize the API approach such as the extra charge for using Tidals DJ Extension - they could easily extend the concept to Roon and other API users
~30% of Tidal subscribers listen via 3P apps/services. that’s a big number to abandon, or force into a native only model.
also, from the article:
as many as 100 employees could be laid off, which would amount to roughly a quarter of Tidal’s staff.
just as an indication of how tiny Tidal is, relative to Spotify.
Where does that figure come from exactly ? Interesting to know the user count. I know a lot of users that have gone to connect from 3p model and won’t look back. They have improved their app a lot and it still has stuff you can’t get via api. If they put all their efforts in to their app to make it best in class and has all the features users want more would move over with no problems. Hard to find stuff now that doesn’t support connect.
Not every system supports Connect, and its no reason by itself to change components. Would be foolish of Tidal to abandon API users when they could just charge for them. If they drop API support then I am done with Tidal and thats OK with me.
I hope not. After a direct comparison roon x Tidal, roon local-only and roon x Qobuz, I would recommend everyone to partner roon with Qobuz. Tidal adds a lot of messy metadata particularly with older recordings.
Tried it recently and can confirm that it offers a lot of reactive, potentially A.I. driven suggestion features and browsing. Nevertheless I found it to be messy, counterintuitive and less capable of bringing structure into your favorites, as if they want to beat Spotify in a competition whose app looks fresher and faster.
The MQA situation with removing MQA tags but not files does not add to Tidal´s trust, sorry.
This I can’t agree with Spotify app is hideous with far too much noise, and it isn’t album focused at all in my opinion it’s all about playlists and pushes podcasts way too much.
I don’t keep favourites any more eventually found maintaining a virtual library pointless especially given Roons uselessness with them when they get removed. Can play all the same albums without the mess.
As for the last bit where is the proof of this exactly? Speculation or is it a proper fact that has multiple sources validating it with evidence?
Well either FiiO are lying or the doors are closed to new partners.

Maybe they are - in any case I’ll drop Tidal if its no longer integrated in Roon
I’m atypical in that I don’t use TIDAL in Roon but primarily in native apps, Bluesound and KEF apps.
If TIDAL goes native app only, I will very unhappily depart.
Follow the last reports in this thread:

I would generally ignore MQA or files formerly declared as MQA but unfortunately an MQA file with embedded MQA ´hires´ data just adds several bits or in the region of 30dB of noisefloor if not recognized and decoded properly.
If I would not have moved away from Tidal some time ago due to metadata issues and disappearing albums, this would be the moment.
I’d be more worried about Qobuz than Tidal .
Qobuz has the benefit that they offer the sublime subscription with great discounts for purchases . Also they added DXD and DSD files for purchase … and they are also available in Japan now where I believe qobuz has a deal to stream files for onkyo …
While tidal has ? (More hiphop and techno music on offer ? And they are cheaper in certain locations)
They still have a lot less coverage , oh BTW Where is Africa
I’m talking financially.
