I’m not sure if this the right place to post but I’ll start here. I’ve got 10 days left on my Roon Trial and have been so happy with it, I just bought a high powered NUC i5 1240P / 64 GB RAM in Fanless Akasa case. No sooner I made the purchase, Roon stated giving me the “Roon Lost Control …” message for all of my Sonos Devices. It worked flawlessly for 4 days but not today. Quitting and restarting the server has got me running again. My Server during this trial is running on a windows rig with tons of horsepower and it’s hardwired into the network. Any idea what might have caused this and how to prevent it. I sure dont want to be climbing up my book case where the ROCK will be sitting to shut down and restart over and over. Any hints would be appreciated.
You can reboot ROCK remotely via the Web UI:
As for the issue, there are repeatedly posts about issues with Sonos - I don’t have Sonos devices, so I don’t know details. If you have issues with Roon that you need help with, it is best to post in the Support section of the forum, not under Roon Software Discussion. This collects more information for support staff to work with, and Support is monitored by Roon Labs.
Just posting as this may be a help to others. I’ve discovered that the issues with Roon Losing Control of Sonos Device seems to happen when the Sonos has been controlled and operated through the Sonos App and then swtching over to Roon. I have to ensure that all zones are deactivated in Sonos, then Roon can take over. It works the other other way as well. I’ve pretty much cut use of SONOS app except when watching TV. I need the Sonos App to group the HDMI Beam attached to my TV to group with the Port connected to my Amp, this sending TV Audio into my Amp. In this case, if the Port was being controlled by Roon for music playback into the AMP, I have to ungroup, make sure everything has stopped playing, then try again with Sonos to group the 2 devices. It’s my belief that getting a ROON Ready Wiim Ultra will solve this problem as it has HDMI Arc and will be the living room endpoint. This will eliminate 2 pieces of sonos and my reliance on the Sonos app for this function. I’ll be able to test this theory next week when the Ultra arrives. I’m keeping all the Sonos speakers and amps in my home and will run them from Roon. We’ll know soon enough if this works. I believe the only functionality I’ll loose is the ability to send TV audio to every other zone in my home, which isn’t that important anyway.
