I’ve submitted a tech support ticket - but paste what I wrote here in case the wider user base knows about this and can suggest either a fix, or “not to worry” notice, please:
Is this a known phenomenon, please?
TIA…
I shall cancel the support ticket if others are experiencing it etc… definitely know that duplicate posts are unhelpful!
I have the exact same issue, when I first click to open sometimes there is a little flash but it does not open ,sometimes I have to clicked it 3 or 4 times to get it to open and then everything works properly afterwards until I ■■■■ it and try to open it again
I think I remember seeing ‘reports’ on Reddit last week after the launch on September 15 (and before I waited the usual ‘few days’ before upgrading to 26) of other apps doing the same.
I checked in the logs and there are no signs of a crash. Everything else is just fine.
I guess the next thing to test is whether this only happens after Roon may have been running and perhaps the server hasn’t yet ended whichever processes it needs to terminate when the app quits?
Doesn’t happen to me (using only the Roon client) but I think several other people have reported this, e.g. here:
It might be a thing that it looks like it doesn’t start but after several tries it might eventually. Maybe this would have been also the case in the thread where you added that you don’t have trouble with Tahoe , but this user so far only reported that it doesn’t start (and maybe it would have eventually, but who knows):
Interesting, I haven’t seen any. 26.0.1. is expected in a week or so
I’m having the same issue, I have to open the Roon app several times until it runs. I’m also losing connection to my Rotel A12 MKii and unable to reconnect after it has
I believe it may also not actually be not ‘launching’ as such; but that some sort of “let’s ‘reserve’ some window ‘space’” routine?
Thanks to everyone who has helped by reporting similar things, I know it’s unlikely to be a fault local to my (brand new and built from scratch) Studio M4 .
Same here, need to relaunch the app up to 5 times till it finally lauches. + another problem: ‘Failed to initialize the audio device’ “Lost control with audio device” and other similar messages when i try to play music. My device - Gustard A26. I thought this happens only with DSD files, but it appears not to be file type specific. I have to restart the playback up to 10 times, but after a couple of songs, the problem comes back. Roon is so great, but i can’t use it
No, it doesn’t seem to have fixed the crashing issues of Roon on Mac. Also, the Dock icon of Roon looks outdated in Tahoe, and Liquid Glass is not supported.
This has been the case for me throughout the release 26 beta on my Mac Studio M1 (Roon client). However, not on my other Mac hardware (MacMini M1 running as Roon Server, MacBook Air M3 client, Mac Mini M4 client). All currently on official release 26. So, I’m suspicious that this is some sort of macOS race condition or possibly a Roon timing issue with respect to the OS. If the latter, I’m thinking other non-Apple apps may be experiencing similar “startup” issues.
I believe, as some others may have found, when using your “mouse/trackpad” to start Roon it’s best to rapidly tap on the Roon icon. That seems to get Roon going. Hope that helps.
When I started this thread it was because it appeared that a launch in the normal (that is, single-clicks) in the Dock were ineffective.
Closer inspection suggests a brief ‘semi-launch’ and then a quit/crash.
But a search for ‘Roon’ in the Console reveals nothing.
We’ve had an assurance that a fix is in the works. The only reason for my post today was that a usual second (third, fourth, fifth) try didn’t launch Roon at all, which was more worrying
