I had previously been using Roon on macOS Sonoma about a year ago. At the time, I was successfully using symlinks within my ~/Music/Roon/ directory, e.g. the symlink ~/Odyssey/ within my ~/Music/Roon/After 'Ours/ directory referenced ~/Music/Media/After 'Ours/Odyssey/, in which the original files are located, as this ~/Music/Media/ directory is also referenced by the Music app.
Happily returning to Roon in the last few days, and now on macOS Sequoia 15.2, I noticed that Roon is no longer detecting media files via symlinks, nor via aliases. Has there been a change in Roon's features? I note the same issue occurs on both Roon 1.8 and 2.0. I'm looking for a way to resolve this, and continue to use Roon's functionality as I had done so before, without needing to duplicate all my local media files.
Hi @underanyothersky,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. @Formula is correct about macOS 15.x.x having some issues with Roon. Were you able to resolved the issue with the troubleshooting steps at the link they shared?
@Nepherte is correct. This is not a network issue. The files and Roon are both on the same computer.
This is an issue where Roon 1.8 or 2.0 is not recognizing audio files added to my ~/Music/Roon/ directory via symlinks (or aliases). This previously worked without issue for symlinks.
As Roon 1.8 has the same issue, this more or less proves that the behavior didn’t change because of Roon, because there are no changes in 1.8. I would guess it’s another thing caused by Sequoia’s additional lockdowns.
In addition to the new network access settings in Sequoia that @daniel mentioned, there are also disk access settings. You may want to check those:
There is macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files & Folders → Roon. Though only standard folders are an option and I don’t think this can make a difference.
Does it make a difference if, for testing, you give Roon full access via macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access?
And since your files are in the built-in music folder of macOS, does adding Roon to macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music change anything?
Hi @Suedkiez, this is what resolved the issue! Thanks so much for your guidance.
I tested this on Roon 1.8 first, and then confirm it also resolves the issue for Roon 2.0.
