Description of Issue
I have a Roon Nucleus which is set up to play music via 4 Meridan 218’s. It has been working perfectly for the last year or so, but has just stopped working. No music is playing via the speakers although the Roon app is showing as playing. I have rebooted all devices as well as the network switches. I have also disabled and re-enabled the devices in the settings>audio menu.
Can you be more specific about which sonos devices you’re using? Are they all on the same sonos protocol?
We’ll also need more details around your full network setup:
Overall, you’ll likely need to simplify your network until things manage to work, and slowly add each piece back into your setup to see where the issue may be.
Can you confirm the meridian device (as well as all devices using Roon) is on the same local subnet within your network?
Nothing to do with Roon. The issue is with Sonos being on the same network. If you unplug the Sonos devices from the power and reboot your Meridian devices they should work again.
Hi @benjamin
I am experiencing the same problem.
With the hint from @jaapaap I unplugged all sonos devices and Sound returned from my Meridian218 endpoint.
I powered on my sonos move and the meridian218 disappeared from roon. Restarting roon and 218 it showed up again but with the same issue. No sound out of the 218.
None of my sonos devices are enabled in roon.
I have a lot of sonos devices (Old and new) Adding the Old sonos devices running on the S1 on its own sonosnet doesn’t cause problems.
Only when I start powering up the newer devices on wifi.
Any idea?
My experience is that it started after updating roon but I can’t say with 100% confidence
@Peter_Hvidegaard
My network consists of Cisco switches. Everything is hard wired.
I don’t have any Sonos devices enabled in Roon. Everything has been working fine for over a year. I need to understand why having Sonos on the same network is now causing the issue.
@Nasir_Rehman
Thanks for your input.
Like you I have never had any of my sonos devices enabled in Roon.
I think it is very strange. If I turn off all sonos everything works perfectly.
The minute I power on e.g. my sonos move, meridian 218 endpoints disappear in roon. Restarting the meridian and ROON, the meridian is visible again but then back to no sound ?!?!?!?
I also have some old sonos devices operating on the S1 system on sonosnet. These do not interfere with the meridian.
Which sw version are you running on the 218’s?
Mine is only build 240. I will update them tomorrow but I doubt it will have any effect.
I talked to sonos today, who ended up concluding that they couldn’t see that it was a problem at their end !!! I hate being thrown around instead of the professional partners taking action together. They have a mutual interest and have the technical knowledge
I have exactly the same symptoms. Two 218s which will not play any music, although they are seen by Roon and appear to be “working” but no sound. The 210 I have however does work. I can’t turn off the Sonos otherwise I then can’t watch TV. Very frustrating. Anyone from Roon have a solution?
Meridian has released a firmware, that solves the issue caused by the sonos upgrade.
This firmware is contained in the Meridian Device Manager for PC v52
I just had the chance now to do the firmware upgrade to build 256.
And everything seems to be working perfectly now.
I have tested the Meridian controlled and streamed to by ROON and I have actually also tested the Meridian integrated with sonos (Sourced by sonos port) and no problems experienced.
According to the release notes, this firmware release relates to three areas of product behaviour:
• Allows 218 and 251 to be used on networks which include one or more Sonos units.
• Provides 218 with the new ‘Extension Limit’ audio setting supported by Meridian DSP9 loudspeakers.
• Improves other aspects of functionality in certain installation scenarios
Does anyone know whether this update is available on the Mac Meridian device manager soon? The version i have does not give me the option to upgrade the firmware…
