I currently use Roon with a Wiim and on the laptop but I am a DJ and use Native Instruments Traktor S4MK2. Roon recognises that I have the software winstalled but won't play "through" the S4mk2 when I am using it as an external sound card to power my KRK rokits...
Describe your network setup
INtel NUC, EE SUper Router, TP link Range Extenders,
Roon uses the first two channels present for playback. How many channels does the S4 MkII offer? Are the first two setup (by default) as out put channels and open?
Note: Roon is not a DJ nor a DAW software, but a rather simple playback software without noteworthy sound routing capabilities. The little there is, is hidden inside its Procedural Equalizer:
I’m not entirely sure, but I would assume so- Anything else I play from my laptop (with the S4 set as the Audio Output) works fine- with the Master volume defaulting to that of the S4 (rather than any single one of it’s four mixer channels).
When it is plugged in I get the dreaded “Too many Errors” prompt…
Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report!
To confirm, Roon sees the S4MK2 driver in audio settings? It may not be exposed as a standard ASIO/WASAPI/CoreAudio device while Traktor is running.
Since the S4MK2 is designed first as a DJ controller, its audio interface behaves a little differently than a normal “consumer” DAC. Sometimes, only one program at a time can grab exclusive access.
If you do see it in audio settings, do you see an ASIO or WASAPI option?
In Roon > Device Setup, disable Exclusive Mode for the S4MK2 and see if that frees it up.
A quick follow-up test to try:
Close Traktor → open Roon → select S4MK2 ASIO driver in Roon. Does it play?
If yes, then the issue is purely about shared access when Traktor is open.
It may be worth testing out using a virtual audio driver like ASIO4ALL or Voicemeeter, which can wrap and share the S4MK2’s output.
I am not running any other software (Not Traktor nor audacity or any DAW) and am using a Windows 11 laptop with 2tb and a big bunch of RAM as my laptop (with the Roon Rock Server on my NUC).
I don’t have the ASIO option for the S4 mk3 for some reason (I do have it in Traktor when running that software).
While we’d like to assist further with troubleshooting this routing setup, it’s outside the scope of our support team to assist with situations that enable using Roon for live broadcast or live performance setups.
We hate to be stodgy, but we have to ensure we respect the licensing agreements in place upstream of Roon through our streaming service partners.
