Describe the issue

Roon will play to System Output and to one of my Sonos speakers, but not the other two. They are all on the same wifi network. The Sonos app and Qobuz are able to play to all three. This happens with music from my laptop hard drive (where I am running Roon) and from a NAS I have to store CDs. It thinks the song is playing (i.e. I hit the play arrow and the pause symbol is available), but the song doesn't progress. The Signal Path is high quality. I can't see any way in which the Sonos units are set up differently. The one it works on is a Sonos One, and the others are an Era 100 and Era 300. Thank you.

Describe your network setup

App running on LG laptop (Windows 11 Home, Intel i7, 16GB Ram), speedtest shows 116 mpbs download/10.9 upload.

Hey @jfkowalski,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and share your report, and welcome to the community as well!

As a first step, if you haven’t yet, please safely stop Roon Server from running, and give both your server machine and your router a reboot.

Are you able to temporarily set up a direct ethernet connection from your Era’s to your primary router and see if the same issue happens?

Do you see the same issue when streaming over the Sonos protocol rather than airplay?

Since you are using a Windows PC, I would verify that both Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe have been added as exceptions to your Windows firewall.

You can use these instructions to add the exceptions and the executables themselves would be located in your Database Location/Application folder path.

I would also add these exceptions to any Antivirus or other Firewall blocking applications you may have and ensure that you connected to your network via a Private network, not a Public one, see this guide for more information.

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

Hi- thanks for your reply. I can’t reboot until later, but the apps are allowed through the firewall.
How do I change from airplay to the Sonos protocol?

I did see other tickets that said Sonos One worked and Era did not, which is my scenario as well, and the conclusion was it may have been a bug in the last update, for which the fix has been requested.

Thanks!

Hi @jfkowalski,

There should be two listings of your Sonos device in the Roon settings → Audio page; one for Airplay and one for the Sonos protocol. Simply enable the Sonos protocol entry and you will be able to use it. I advise editing the names of the two entries to denote which one is Airplay and which is the Sonos protocol. Please let us know if you run into any trouble doing this!

That worked! Thank you!
