Roon not streaming to JBL Boombox 3 WiFi

I just bought a JBL Boombox 3 WiFi. I am able to stream to it via AirPlay from Apple Music, but I have not been able to stream to it from Roon.

The Boombox shows up under “Other network devices” and I can enable it. When I hit play, it even shows me the signal path (AirPlay streaming), but the music never starts and the counter is stuck on 0:00.

Anyone had luck streaming from Roon to the JBL Boombox 3 WiFi?

It appears that you did not complete the template that is provided when posting in the #support category. Possibly because you created the topic in a different category before moving it.

Potentially your issue is related to your network setup, so please provide as much detail as possible.

Description of Issue

I am able to stream to ithe Boombox via AirPlay from Apple Music, but I have not been able to stream to it from Roon. The Boombox shows up under “Other network devices” and I can enable it. When I hit play, it even shows me the signal path (AirPlay streaming), but the music never starts and the counter is stuck on 0:00. AirPlay streaming to Sonos devices from Roon works fine.

Thank you!

I think that the JBL Boombox 3 WiFi would need to be a Roon Endpoint and I do not see anything saying this device is a Roon Ready device, but I could be wrong.

According to the OP it is showing up under “Other network devices” which should be sufficient anders also expected considering that it supports both Airplay and Chromecast.

Is the Sonos ethernet connected directly to the Orbi or is there also an ISP supplied router involved in your setup?

The Sonos Boost is connected directly to the Orbi base station.

For Orbi routers, Roon suggests to Disable IGMP Proxying

Can you check that setting on you Orbi?

Hey @Brad_Hood,

Ben with the technical support team here - thanks for writing in!

I was able to pull your account up and see that your JBL has recently connected to your core via Airplay successfully. Are you still running into issues?

If so, please share the date and time the next time you try to connect and stream audio to the device.

I’ll be monitoring this thread for your reply. :+1:

Thanks for responding.

No, it connects but playback never starts. Just stays stuck on 0:00.

Hey @Brad_Hood,

Thanks for the follow-up. I was able to review your core diagnostic, and see that the JBL is hitting a network socket exception while attempting to connect via airplay.

  1. Do you have any other devices using port 7000? It seems something is blocking the port that Airplay is attempting to use.
  2. Do you have multiple subnets active within your local network?
  3. As a side test, are you able to move devices to different wifi bandwidths in your network? If so, I would test out moving the JBL to either wifi band (2.4 or 5ghz) and see if the issue persists.

Thanks!
