Roon Nucleus One crashing frequently during various operations (ref#GLR2BS)

What’s happening?

· I am experiencing freezes or crashes

Describe the issue

Last October, I bought a roon nucleus one through the roon store. Since purchasing it, I have encountered the same problem every day. The Roon server crashes every time it is used. Sometimes it crash and won't restart. My previous Roon servers did not encounter this recurring problem (Roon server on a Windows Surface and Roon server on a Mac mini 2022).This problem appears when playing an album, when I browse my albums or when I perform a search to find an artist.

My library has just over 68,000 tracks, 47,000 of which are local (AIF, ALAC, Flac and DSD). I subscribe to Qobuz and Tidal. Additional clarification, my server is often very slow. I have the impression that the installed memory is insufficient. To try to resolve this issue, I did the following:

1. I have rebooted several times.
2. Reinstall Roon OS.
3. I have experienced the server in production and beta mode.
4. I changed the external hard drive.Same result, the server always crashes each time it is used. Can you help me? Otherwise, is it possible to get a refund?

Describe your network setup

I have a Sagecom Home Hub 4000 Modem (Bell Canada is my Internet provider).
A Cisco SG110D-08 switch
My Roon Nucleus One is plugged into this switch.
My steamer used is an Eversolo DMPA6 Master edition (this streamer is also connected to this switch)

I recall another Nucleus one owner who was experiencing similar issues. He added more memory and said that resolved all the issues he was having. Like you he was within the specified library size but still needed more memory.

Support may have a different response but the additional memory is what I recall.

Thank you for the feedback. I tought it was impossible to upgrade the memory of the Nucleus One. What kind of memory I should buy?

Here is a link to a post on the subject.

I’d check with the OP of that post as he has been through the ordeal.

Hello @Mario_St_Laurent ,

Thanks for reaching out with your report. The library size does appear to be within the limits, so I’m curious to know what logs say at the time of the crash. I’ve activated diagnostics for your account but the Nucleus doesn’t look like it’s currently online.

Can you please turn it on/use the unit at your next earliest convenience and let us know here afterwards? Also, it looks like your screenshot of the latest crash is from November 14th, can you please list a few more instances of when the unit crashes (or crashes in the future)? This will help us track down the timestamp in the error logging. Thanks!

Hello @noris,

My Roon nucleus is online. The last crash happened Monday around 8h09 pm. My Roon nucleus is still slow.

Hi Mario,
You need a DDR4, 3200M / s, PC4-25600, CL22, Dual Rank, SODIMM, 260-Pin RAM module.

Hey @Mario_St_Laurent,

Thanks for the follow up!

As a next step, we’d like to see if removing the below corrupt files from your library may help:

1. Keith Jarrett/Concerts (Bregenz, München) (Disc 2) [HD96]/02 Munich Part II (Live At Herkulessaal, Munich _ 1981).flac
2. cd-quality/Les Paul, Mary Ford/Time To Dream/Les Paul, Mary Ford - 05. You Call It Madness (But I Ca.flac, Reason=corrupt_file] from folder LibraryFolder[4ed78fc0-b490-46e2-b44f-8cd90c73d459::cd-quality/Les Paul, Mary Ford/Time To Dream]
3.high-res/Oliver Nelson/The Blues And The Abstract Truth (DSD)/02 - Oliver Nelson - Hoe Down.dsf

The best course of action to do this would be to first create a fresh backup, then stop Roon Server, remove the files from the originating watched folders, and reboot Roon Server. Roon will pickup the removed files, in which you can then navigate to Roon Settings>Library>Clean up Library and perform a library clean up.

We’ll be on standby for your results! :+1:

Hello @benjamin,

I tried to do a fresh backup, as suggested. I attach the message that I have got from my Roon Nucelus One server. Curiously, the Roon server didn’t crash. The backup is actually going on. Strange. By the way, I bought recently 2 of the 3 albums who are corrupt from Qobuz. Strange. I will report when it will be done. Thank you for your support!

@benjamin,

It’s done! Waiting for your return. Thank you once again!

Hello @daniel,
The message disappeared at 15% of the backup. Since the backup, I haven’t had any new crashes. I will send, in a few minutes, some “corrupted” files as requested. Waiting for your search results. Thank you!!

@Daniel, where can I upload these files on this page Zoho WorkDrive? It seems I can only download.

I sent the wrong link. Here is the correct one. https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/collection/nqcgjac23027d90a441bda2c314de49d7958a/external

@daniel, the files are uploaded and sent.

Thank you for sending those files. I’ve attached them to our ticket with the developers. Once we know more we will let you know here.

Hello, today, at 4:53 p.m., I chose an album from my music library (Eternity And A Day by Eleni Karaindrou). Roon took over 40 seconds to access it (no pun with eternity). This is unacceptable. It takes me two seconds with my Eversolo internal music library.

Hi @Mario_St_Laurent,

Were you able to analyze the files in question?

This album also seems to show potential corruption:

Warn: [Worker (1)] [tagextractionservice] possibly corrupt file (CorruptFile):

From a recent diagnostic report, we see the playback attempt on the Eversolo DMP-A6 but are you able to reproduce this behavior no matter the endpoint? Are you able to test from the system output of your mobile device or remote?

This is great news!

Thank you for the answer @Benjamin. I have a MacBook, which software can I use to analyze these files? About the album “Eternity and A Day”, I bought it this afternoon, once again in the Qobuz store. I am a little bit skeptical. I tried a minute ago to choose the album and it takes two seconds like my Eversolo. So the performance of my Roon server seems inconsistent.

Hello @benjamin,

News for my slowness problems with my Roon Nucleus One server?
