Description Of Issue

Starting 10 days ago, my Roon Nucleus lost communication.

The Roon Nucleus POWER button does NOT light up. NO wonder it doesn’t show up in the network. Nothing from my end has changed, hardware wise.

This lack of power to the Nucleus is new as of today. Prior to this, I was able to power cycle the unit to troubleshoot. I was able to determine that the Roon software (raatserver.exe and roon.exe) are allowed through the Windows firewall. Disconnecting AVAST temporarily did not resolve. I notice new .net (is it 4.8 was recently installed via a Wndows update.

I power cycled multiple times. I checked that the Roon softwares were admitted through the Windows firewall. Stopping the anti-virus AVAST temorarilty did not help.

The ROON nucleus icon was missing from the network view in Windows. Rinstalling ROON software resolved this, but there was still no communication. As of today, April 15, the ROON nuclues power button no longer lights up, implying the unit is dead. The power cord to the ROON brick DOES have a green light, implying that power IS being supplied to the unit.>

I had the same problem on Wednesday. No More power on the Nucleus. I unplugged it for over an hour and plugged it back in and it came back I then removed Roon from my pro ipad and reinstalled it. And then I moved the roon back to configuration. For now everything seems to go except a few bugs like radio roon that doesn’t work or music songs that jump.

Voici ce que le support m’a suggéré »

We’re sorry to hear that you’re having issues with your Nucleus. Your thread was in the Roon Software channel. I moved it to Support when I saw the support ping from @xxx.

Let’s start by trying an OS reinstall and Server reset on your Nucleus

  • Create a fresh backup
  • Stop RoonServer from running in Nucleus’s WebUI or use this link http://nucleus.local
  • Navigate to your Nucleus’ Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Database
  • Reinstall Roon Os from the WebUI
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Core” and connect to the new database
  • If everything starts up as expected Restore your Backup prior to the issue starting
  • If the database loads properly, your edits, playlists, tags, etc should be intact, and we can confirm everything is performing properly once it’s been restored.

How do you expect someone to do all this when the nucleus doesn’t boot up?

Your best bet is to contact the vendor that sold you the nucleus. It might still be under warranty.

Thanks Pierre for your suggestion. I unplugged the Roon Nucleus overnight. After multiple attempts to power the unit on, finally the light in the center of the power button lit up-yeah. The Roon Nucleus was not displayed in my network and so I rebooted the Windows computer–then the Roon Nucleus showed up. As a precaution I have saved the log files from both the server and the raatserver.
I am hesitant to follow your directions until I hear back about a new observation. When the unit worked properly there was a flashing green light to the right of the ethernet cable. That is still the case. HOWEVER there now a YELLOW light to the left of the ethernet cable. I’ve never observed this before. I have a photo but can’t figure out how to upload the photo.
Note: The unit IS under warranty as I purchased it in July 2021.
I welcome a reply from you, and particularly from Roon folks themselves.
Thanks!

Needless to say, the Roon Nucleus, even with the power on, (and Yellow light too), DOES NOT communicate.
As mentioned before both Roon softwares are allowed through the firewall. Turning off my antivirus does not help. There have been zero changes at my end, that I’m aware of, other than Windows updates.
Thanks for your help.

If you plug a monitor and keyboard to the Nucleus, can you post a pic of the screen?

I went to the link you supplied: http://nucleus.local. I see the option to stop the Roon server software. Even though the Roon Nucleus has been on for over an hour, the software states that it has only been on for 3 seconds. To me, this is consistent witth the fact that the Roon is NOT communicating with my computer.
I welcome feedback.
Anne

Sounds like it’s in a reboot loop. Try doing a reinstall if you can from the same page. Not a reset.

You can always try a reboot. You go in setting + configuration and you have the option at the top right ( red button ) reboot or,power off. At home it still works 48 hours after removing the ios app on my tablet. By reinstalling it, you must also reinstall Tidal or and Qobuz and the path to a NAS if applicable. If it doesn’t work. Speak directly to the support. Good luck

But as I wrote yesterday, some bugs remain, including the Roon radio that no longer works, musical pieces that jump or play a few seconds before returning to the debate. We should probably get an update

Hi Pierre, I appreciate your help. I’m confused about rebooting vs reinstalling. I do see the red button on the top right of the http://nucleus.local/ screen. After I reboot, do I follow the instructions that you originally gave?
Also would you comment about the yellow (new phenomenon) light to the left of the ethernet cord?

Also if this doesn’t help, how do I get in touch with Roon support. I’ve emailed them, and received an acknowledgement (automatic email), but silence after a full week.
Thanks!
Anne

Hi Pierre,
I rebooted, but it was no help.
I will next try a re-install. On my Windows Explorer App>local area, there are two folders: ROON and Raatserver. Which one of these do I rename as the old one?
Thanks for the clarification.
Anne

Here. @support I have pinged them for you, but, they are off on weekends so will see it tomorrow.

Windows software is not the Nucleus software. To reinstall the OS on the Nucleus, you need to access the Nucleus Web UI and choose reinstall.

The reinstall used the link [http://nucleus.local 1](http://nucleus.local/. There is a reinstall feature. As instructed, I first renamed the ROON folder under app/loca to Roon_old. After the “reinstall”, which the “Admin” web based screen, stated that the reinstall was successful, I was suprised to find NO new Roon folder in Windows explorer, even after rebooting.
Attempting to launch the Roon software gave me an error, that Roon.exe could not be found. Ironically it is still listed as an allowable application through the firewall.
So I renamed the Roon_old folder back to its original name, Roon, and replaced it. Subsequently the Roon software attempted to launch, but of course there is no communication.
Thank you so much for reaching out to support. The unit is under warrantee. I’m quite concerned about that yellow LED to the left of the ethernet cable. I’m only guessing, but I sense a hardware problem. I welcome help from Roon Support.

you just renamed the roon folder on windows not the nucleus. anyway a reinstall on the nucleus web interface should not kill your roon server installation database.

suggest you wait for support.

It is not a hardware problem. That light indicates the network speed and changes depending upon the connection rate.

See, below snipped from Intel’s motherboard manual:

It could still be hardware as the lan interface can show lights even if the system is not powered up but has power to the board. This is common to many motherboards these days.

Hi @Anne_Emerick,

Thank you for reaching out on our ticket system and for posting here on Community for help over the weekend.

From checking your system diagnostics it appears that you may have set up Roon Core on your Windows machine by mistake during your troubleshooting.

In Roon, please go to Seetings>About and look for Remote and Core. What do you see there? Do you see both, Remore and Core, or only Core? If only Core, where does it say your Core is running?

I’ll be watching for your reply and get bak to you as soon as I can.
