Roon on Synology NAS stops after update (ref#817WD1)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Roon is slow, freezing or won’t start

Roon is slow, freezing or won’t start

· Roon won’t start up at all

Tell us what's going on

· After your latest update Roon on our Synology NAS 7.1.1 42962 will no longer start. We can manually start using the Roon package, but after less than a minute it will stop, saying a "manual stop". We have rebooted the server multiple times, disabled the firewall. In addition in container , have manually started SQL2017. All to no avail. what else can we try ?

Tell us about your home network

· Synology DS918+, running DSM 7.1.1-42962 latest update 9. No VPN or extenders

The new version of roon needs DSM 7.3 AFAIK.

A Docker image is also an option. Just check the topic a bit in this forum.

As far as I know there’s no automatic pre-install check from roon that does a compatibility check. So, yes, in doubt you brick your roon installation by pressing the update button.

If correct this puts Roon into a very bad position, as I guess that I am not alone in having this issue

What Synology do you have? If you can update to DSM 7.2 (or higher) - Roon will work as normal with the installed package.

The 918+ can be manually updated to DSM 7.3 if you wish to keep using Roon on NAS.

Thanks, I will give this a try first and see if all is back to normal. Other concern after reading everything is the CPU which is a Celeron J3455, it might not be good enough now.

All good thanks, updated the DS 918+ to 7.3, not a problem.

Hi @Simon_Daffern,

Glad to hear the update went well and the DS 918+ is back on track. We will go ahead and close this one out. Enjoy your Roon experience!
