Ferrum Wandla is not “Roon Ready” or “Roon Tested”
It will show up if using Roon Remote App running on Windows PC, directly connected to WANDLA via USB and installing USB AISO driver:
As @Torben_Rick mentioned, this DAC likely doesn’t have Linux drivers avaliable. To use it with the Nucleus, you’ll need a Roon Bridge device (such as Windows or Mac PC) to facilitate the connetion to the device using their proprietary driver.
Assuming the OP is using a Roon Nucleus One running ROCK (Linux) there shouldn‘t be any drivers needed to make a direct USB connection to WANDLA. Works fine for me.
Possible issues to check for:
cable connection, try different usb A - C cable, different USB port on nucleus one
Auto input selection of WANDLA: are other devices connected? Try disabling auto input selection in Wandla settings and disconnect all other devices, select USB input
auto off function of Wandla: the dac goes into standby after a certain amount of inactiviy (5 min default) but should remain visible in Roon via USB. Check settings and disable for testing purposes.
Mentioning Chromecast in the OP post puzzles me.
Also it seems to intitially work (device detected in roon audio settings) but then it’s disappearing after enabling the device. This should not happen and might be the issue here.
Some Screenshots might be helpful to show whats going on.
Not an option. Sitting in my living room chair with a Ferrum stack and an ipad. No pcs anywhere near. If. Pc was near I would set up a Roon server on that. Looks like this just won’t work. Hope I can return the Nucleus One.
Do i understand correctly that you tried different cables and also a different DAC with direct USB connection to Nucleus One without success?
This would point to a faulty USB port on Nucleus One IMHO.
Or Roon uses new hardware in Nucleus One and forgot to Update USB chipset drivers in RoonOS.
HDMI shouldn’t work anyway. It’s HDMI ARC, so it would work with an HDMI ARC output of a TV for example.
If your iPad is relatively new and already has an USB C connector you could try connecting it to WANDLA using the USB C - C cable provided with the iPad for charging. WANDLA should be available as device in Audio Settings in the Roon App on iPad.
Please share a screenshot of the adio settings page with Wanda connected to rule out “error 40”
