I have tried to rip the Les Miserable (Original French Concept Album which has 2 discs. Roon finds only the second disc. In the Rip folder both discs are available. Please advise how I get the content of both discs made available in Roon My Library. Your help is much appreciated
Thanks for taking the time to write in! Sorry to hear about your issue with getting Roon to properly indentify your content.
Before anything else, I think reivewing this KB article on multi-disc sets will be helpful to you:
Roon uses folder structure and file tags to determine disc numbers. If the two discs are in separate folders without proper naming or tags, Roon might think they are separate albums or skip one disc.
If the first disc’s files don’t have proper DISCNUMBER tags or are missing track numbers, Roon can’t match them.
Before anything else, make a fresh backup of your current Roon database for safekeeping.
Then, try the below and let me know if it helps:
Go to your storage folder for the album.
Create a main folder like:
Les Miserables (Original French Concept Album)
Inside that folder, create two subfolders:
CD1
CD2
Move the respective tracks into the correct subfolder.
Make sure the track filenames start with numbers like:
01 - Track Name.flac
02 - Track Name.flac
In Roon, force a rescan of the album folder: Settings → Storage → [Your Folder] → Force Rescan
From there, Roon will group both discs under one album as:
Les Miserables (Original French Concept Album)
Disc 1
Disc 2
You can also verify under Album → Edit → Merge Discs if it doesn’t automatically combine them.
It looks as though you have a CD-ROM drive attached to a Nucleus, and as you have found, the CD ripping function of Roon OS does not handle box sets at all well. You will have to massage the file and folders manually as suggested by @benjamin.
This limitation of the ripping function is why many of us prefer to use a third-party app such as dBpoweramp for ripping our CDs and boxsets.
