I set up the ROCK server 90 days ago. I added a Pioneer Blu-ray Drive BDR-S13U-X BD/DVD/CD Writer with PureRead 4+ Realtime PureRead and M-DISC Support Equipped and it was immediately recognized.
I have read multiple complaints about the reliability of the ROON CD-Ripper which I discounted because my installation worked so well…
It just stopped ripping several days ago and is not being recognized by the Roon OS. I have rebooted, reinstalled, restarted network, unplugged and replugged power and data cables and searched the knowledge base.
I need some help in troubleshooting. I really do not want to start ripping externally and transferring files.
What worked for me was to pull the USB cable from the NUC, then power cycle the NUC, then reconnect the USB cable. That order has worked for me each time the issue came up.
Has the ripping process worked since the OS build 258 upgrade last week? Maybe something in that build broke it. I haven’t had any new cd’s to rip for a long while.
What’s the usual response time? This is a subscription service and I would hope to at least get some troubleshooting tips or a "you’re SOL’ response to a basic question.
Description of Issue
ROCK doesn’t recognize CD drive after update. i had made no physical hardware or network changes and it just stopped ripping and does not show up on the Roon OS User Interface page.
Streams and plays stored tracks as always, just quit ripping and now doesn’t recognize the CD drive.
No error messages, just disappearance of CD-Ripper information on the interface page. It appears to have coincided with the latest upgrade; I haven’t been really paying attention, just allowing them to install whenever I see them.
@Jonathan_Best - Yours is the second report of the CD Ripper on Roon OS stopping working in the last few days. Interestingly, Roon OS has also just had an update, so I wondered whether there might be a connection.
I’ve just updated my Roon OS from an early access build to the production build of 258, and my CD Ripper seems to be fine. So it may be coincidence, or there may be some deeper issue that is not affecting everyone.
One thing that you can try is disconnecting the drive, rebooting your ROCK/NUC and then reconnecting it. If that doesn’t help, I’m afraid we’re going to have to wait until @support are able to pull logs from your system to take a closer look.
Can you state the make and model of your CD drive to give them some additional information? Thanks.
I repurchased DB Poweramp and can rip using a laptop; have not figured out how to transfer to the ROCK storage location over the network, but it should be possible. All in all a real PITA compared to the way the ROCK seamlessly ripped my first 800 CD’s.

It is possible, but if you do, it is best to stop your Roon Server using the ROCK’s Web Administration page and then restart it once ripping is completed. Alternatively, rip to a holding area first, and then copy the completed folders and files across to your Roon’s Watched Folders.
The reason is that ripping is a relatively slow process, and the album tracks are built up one by one. If the ripping destination is within a Watched Folder and Roon Server is running, then Roon immediately tries to identify the partial album, and it can easily get confused. You may end up with several partial albums that need to be manually merged.

The drive works fine on other device USB connections such as Laptop computer.
I asked about this early in May and have had no “official” response. I am not trying to be less than patient, but Roon is a subscription service and the FAQ’s seem to imply a fairly timely reply to questions such as these.
You have my extreme apologies for the delay in getting to your thread! I very much appreciate your continued patience here, there is no excuse for the length of time it took to reach your issue.
I was able to pull diagnostics from your ROCK, and I’m seeing some odd and reoccurring errors related to airplay and your core. If possible, could you disable your airplay devices temporarily, and then test out running things on a fresh Roon database? I’ll share the necessary steps below:
