PC application freezes on start-up. I've been through this before with your support, and thought it solved but it isn't. I can access via my Android phone with no issue.
Thanks for writing in and for sharing your report!
We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report from your Roon Server, but didn’t see any signs of issues - could you please reproduce the issue, and share a more specific date and time of when you experience the freeze?
Let’s also clear your Roon cache folder (not Roon Server cache):
Thank you for checking the cache folder — that helps narrow things down.
Since the freeze continues even after clearing the Roon cache, the next step is to perform a clean reinstall of the Roon application on your Windows PC (this does not remove your Roon database).
Please follow these steps carefully:
1. Uninstall Roon
Open Settings → Apps
Find Roon
Click Uninstall
When prompted, do NOT check any option to remove the database or user data
2. Download the latest installer
Use the official download link:
3. Reinstall Roon
Run the installer
Launch Roon and test again
This process refreshes the application files without touching your library or Roon Server.
If the freeze still occurs after reinstalling, please let us know the exact timestamp (date + time) of your most recent startup attempt so we can correlate it with diagnostics on our side.
This worked initially (once), but closing and reopening the application mean it froze again on start-up. Precise time 12pm GMT (just now as I write). (this was Saturday 29th November 2025)
Thank you for letting us know that more precise timestamp. According to our diagnostics, it looks like you have Sonic Studio driver on this PC, and this has caused issues in the past. Can you please try the following and let us know if it helps restore functionality?
Close Roon
Navigate to: C:\Users(username)\AppData\Local\Roon\Database\Registry\Client\
Note: It may require enabling “show hidden files and folders” to see this.
There you should see the file: saved_window_pos.
Rename this file to saved_window_pos.old, restart your computer, and launch Roon then try to duplicate your issue.
If these steps temporarily solves the issue, please let us know as we will need to discuss this further with our dev team. Thank you!
Thanks for the response. I’ve done as instructed, but also uninstalled Sonic Studio from my PC, though somehow there’s still a start-up background task that just takes me to MS Store to install.
Since I’ve done these things, I’ve had no trouble loading the Roon app! Thanks for working this out. Obviously it’d be better if Sonic didn’t prevent Roon startup, but very happy to forgo the former for the latter.
I really appreciate your assistance on this. I’ll advise if I run into any other problems, but looking good thus far.
