I have been using Roon for years. My core is installed on a Sonic Orbiter machine, and I use a Win 11 PC as one of my controllers. The Windows player will not start. I tried reinstalling, and the EXE package installed core plus player on my PC and Room player opens one time, but after I close it or reboot ROON will no longer start up. Roon players on my iOS machines work fine and recognize my core.
How do I fix this, and is there and installation package that will not install a second core on my PC?
I don’t know what’s wrong, but the answer to this is:
The “Roon” installer installs both the GUI player and the Roon Server. (This is new since last November and the “why” is explained here: Roon 2.0.25 is live!)
If you use a Roon Server on a separate machine like your Orbiter, simply connect to that in the GUI player. You can choose if the local Roon Server on the Windows should be running or not, from the notification tray on the Windows task bar (if you don’t have a Roon icon there, it’s not running):
Hi Benjamin, thank you for asking. Yes, the problem resolved itself although I did uninstall and reinstall three times, and then, like magic, all was well.
