Description of Issue

I have been having no issues with Roon and Roon ARC since setting up Roon ROCK on my NUC. However, having just bought an ibasso DX300, i have been having playback issues with Roon using the remote app and roon arc on this device.

The software runs fine and i can browse music, playlists etc. However, when i play music it either does not play at all or it plays exactly two tracks and then it stops. When it doesn’t play at all, i usually get a spinning wheel where the play / pause button usually appears

Also, when it does play back music, the timer / track search bar on the now playing screen does not show the position in the track.

I get the same outcome with downloaded tracks on Roon arc and it makes no difference if i am streaming from tidal via roon or playing local files on the storage connected to my server

All other apps work well on the ibasso device (tidal mainly) and there’s no other issues with roon or Roon arc with other devices or my phone

Any help greatly appreciated!

I should add, i have tried rebooting my core, my wifi and i have also factory reset the ibasso device and the same issue persists.

Adding comment so the thread doesn’t close. When is someone from support likely to respond to this request for help? Thanks

Hi there,

By accident I received an Ibasso dx300 after sendind my dx320 for battery replacement (long story). Roon and Arc worked perfectly fine on my dx320 with the latest firmware but it is not working on the dx300 firmware 2.01.

I tried Roon and Roon Arc from a nuc installed server that works fine with other remotes. But as you mentioned already, the player can navigate around without issues but will freeze trying to play anything, cached or streamed. Sometimes for a few seconds, most of the time nothing at all. The scrolling bar isn’t syncing either and bitrate info disappears.
I am awaiting to get my dx320 back…
Best regards,
Fred.

Hey @infredible,

Thank you for the updates, and you have my apologies for the delay in getting to your thread! If possible, could you recreate the issue and share the specific date, time, and track playing?

From there, our team can better pinpoint what might be going on. :+1:

Thanks!

Hi Ben,

Thanks for getting back to me. All these comments apply to the iBasso DX300 with it’s latest firmware version installed (2.01.109) over Android 11. I have tried clearing caches, and reinstalled the Core too. I have about 4500 tracks in my library.

I am not currently in possession of my DX320 which also had the latest firmware installed (2.06). The DX320 has no issues playing Roon or ARC beside the marginally random sampling rate depending at what sampling rate was used before invoking Roon or Arc. Starting Roon from a fresh reboot, Roon plays locked at the full 768kHz capability of the DX320.

As I mentioned, every other endpoints are working fine including: Wiim, Wiim Pro, Chromecast, Nexus 7, Hiby R5 Saber, Fiio M11 Plus LTD (akm), Samsung Tab S8+, iBasso DX320.
I enjoy ARC in my car using my Nexus phone connected through Android Auto.

I grabbed a bunch of screenshots, but while looking at them, it doesn’t really tell the story…

From the Arc screenshots you can see the spinning wheel. From Roon, play doesn’t work, it seats there… Skipping next or back does the same, the tune queues up properly but won’t play. I tried playing albums from my library and streaming from Qobuz and Tidal subscriptions, cached or not, nothing would play from neither Roon or ARC.

I managed to screengrab an error message saying in red “Poor Connection”.
I have an healthy and perfectly working WiFi network from an Assus RT-AC88U dual band router connected to a fiber modem. All operation are being done from about 10 feet from the router. I tried both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

I installed Roon ROCK on a mini PC bought from Amazon:
MeLE Quieter3C WiFi 6 Fanless Mini PC Win11 Pro Celeron N5105 Mini Desktop Computer 8GB 128GB Micro PC 4K HDMI.
My library is installed on a SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280.

This combo as been working rock solid so far and I am happy with my setup.

I hope to get my DX320 back soon, someone switched the innards of my DX320 with innards of a DX300 before sending it back to me after a trip to the factory for a battery replacement. Unscrupulous people :rage:.
Best regards,
Fred.

Hi Ben,

Some more screengrabs from the DX300…

Fred.

…and even some more screengrabs from the DX300…

Fred.

Hi Ben,

Here’s a screen shot of one track as an exemple:
Tried to play at 13:45 PST:

Ed Sheeran “Shape of You” from album Divide. Qobuz, 44.1kHz.

Hey @infredible,

Thanks for the heads up. So the current device running into issues isn’t the device you’ll be using long term? It’s more so a rental device while your own device is still in the shop?

Based on this information, there could be some hardware issues at play. Do you experience the same issue when not streaming over wifi? Unfortunately, your device diagnostics aren’t pointing to anything outside of general poor connection/networking errors.

Do you experience similar issues when streaming from other services, like the qobuz app?

Ben,

Yes, I certainly hope that this situation is temporary and that I will be able to get my original player back… I am in touch with the vendor…

Some switcheroo happened when I sent my DX320 back for battery replacement where they apparently swapped the back, the button, the inside electronics and amp of my DX320 with the one from a DX300 before sending it back to me.

As for playing from other source, the standalone apps from Qobuz, Tidal and others are working without any problem, local file player’s fine too.

Fred.

Hey @infredible,

If possible, can you share a specific timestamp (date, time) the next time this issue occurs? I should also mention that we don’t yet have full support for DAPs quite yet, but it’s something we’re actively working on. :+1:

@Richard_Cooke are you still running into this issue on both Arc and the Roon Remote app? A timestamp from your end would be helpful as well.

Thanks!

Ben,
I am sorry, I just sent the DX300 back to the shop and will get my DX320 returned soon. Hopefully Roon will still work on that one after a visit to the factory… I will report here…
Sincerely,
Fred.

Got my DX320 back Monday. I initially couldn’t open Google Play Store on it but after re-installing an older version from the Apk store I managed to get it going.
Everything is now back in order, Roon and Arc are running fine.
I now wait for Roon Ready certification to reach iBasso.
Regards,
Fred.

Hi all,

I am in possession of a DX300 after sending out my DX320 for battery replacement.

I had firmware 2.06 installed on the Dx320 Android 11 and I have firmware 2.01 on the DX300 Android 11.

Running Core from a Nuc without any problems.

Roon + Roon Arc are working perfectly fine on my DX320 and other end points. I also have a Fiio M11Plus Ltd and HiBy R5S that are working fine too.

The DX300 is another story… It will not play anything from Roon or Arc.

I am able to open the apps, navigate and ALL without problem but it will not engage play on anything. It freezes, no bitrate, no scroll bar.

I am surprised and disappointed by such a disparity. I hope that iBasso gets its things sorted, better yet, make the firmware Roon Ready.

Fred.

Ben, afraid my dx300 still has issues. I was listening yesterday morning around 9 am on roon remote and the music stopped again after 2 tracks had played. Also had the same issues with the scroll bar being stuck and also, when the second track played, the track information on the now playing screen remained stuck on the first track.

Let me know if you need more info to look into this further
