Description of Issue
My Roon Remote, running with Windows on a Medion Erazer Beast X25 won’t start.
Here’s the error:
The machine has a APU with Radeon Graphics and a dedicated Nvidia RTX GPU. All drivers and windows are up to date.
I also tried to reinstall Roon Remote but that didn’t solve the problem.
While this is not a direct match for your issue, as you have more than one GPU you can use, can you use the information from this article to choose on which GPU Roon tries to run on? Does it help?
Hello BlackJack and thank you for your answer. I followed the instruction in the article regarding multiple gpus and added a profile for roon in the radeon settings and nvidia control panel as described.
But unfortunately that did not solve the problem.
my notebook doesn’t contain any intel chip so the driver & support assistant linked above refuses to start.
Can I provide you with any more details so that we can find a solution for this?
thank you for your further assistance. I tried the different methods in the article which applied to my setup (Nvidia Optimus with AMD APU & Nvidia dGPU).
Like before: Roon Remote doesn’t want to start with neither of the methods.
I couldn’t try this methode here becuase the context menu entry is not available for me in my nivida control panel:
One note: Yes, the laptop is connected to a docking station but on my business laptop Roon Remote works flawless with it. The business laptop is also an AMD Ryzen APU but with no dgpu installed.
I wonder if your DisplayLink USB device could be causing issues, is there any behavior if you try to temporarily disconnect this, does Roon work then? Also, setting up Roon fresh is a good test, you can use these instructions to do so:
Yes, Roon does work when I use the laptop with disconnected displaylink dock and only the build-in laptop display.
And then I can set Windows to use the integrated AMD graphics so that the beefy gpu doesn’t drain the battery so fast because of gpu decode action.
Here is a screenshot from task manager with dGPU (GPU 0) in action:
The battery won’t last longer than 30 minutes with the rtx graphics running Roon Remote. ^^
But using Roon Remote with disconnected Displaylink docking station is not a practicle use case for me as I use the laptop mostly at my working desk, docked with three external displays attached.
The Nvidia graphics and also the iGPU from AMD are more than capable for this use case so I would like a solution that Roon Remote works with connected Displaylink docking station.
Thanks for checking the behavior with the DisplayLink removed. I have put in an investigation ticket into this issue to see if there’s anything we can do on our end to help with this behavior. Can you please also upload a set of logs from your affected Remote to our uploader?
I uploaded the logs for the affected Roon Remote to your cloud drive.
Btw: The provided knowledge base link doesn’t list the required steps for gathering logs from Roon Remote. I guessed that the logs have to be in AppData\local and looked for Roon rather than RAATserver.
It may be a good solution to add this information to your kb.
Please let me know if I can provide your team with more information.
Thanks for the ping here, I am checking with the team on this one. It looks like you only sent one log file, we may need more logs than that for a proper analysis. I’ve activated diagnostics on your account, can you please use the Roon app on it for a few min when you have a chance?
Have you been able to confirm this aspect?
Also, I did talk to our team and we have one additional test that would be helpful, if you disconnect the DisplayLink device, start Roon, and then re-connect DisplayLink, does Roon remain operational? Let us know when possible!
I installed Google Earth Pro on the affected machine and it starts and works flawlessly.
I disconnected the dock, started Roon Remote and then connected the dock again: Roon continues to work and I can play music from this device now.
You should now be able to gather the needed informations from my machine. I’ll continue to use Roon Remote this day for you so that you can get enough data.
