And Roon ARC
This is all complete RoonacyâŚ![]()
I think ROON (in app purchases)âŚ
The Roon Brain
The Roon Manipulator
The Roon Away From Home Player
The Roon Connection To End-Points
Which would have been better named Roon Mobile.
Then there is the name Muse for DSPâŚ![]()

I wonât use âMuseâ. DSP for meâŚ
My Roon doesnât work with my Roon, and my Roon canât see it either; I rebooted Roon, and reset Roon, but I think Roon needs re-installing - Where is support? Iâm not a-MUSE-d ![]()
If they change the name of the ICON to âRoon Remoteâ it will be too small to read on the phone.
I always thought it was strange I had to search for âRoon Remoteâ and install âRoon Remoteâ instead of âRoonâ in the Play store.
Yes, Iâve always thought it should follow this logic as well. Even having the installer (one main installer?) prompt for the indiv options the user would select, would make it much less confusing (Linux cmd line call the indiv switches)
And that is a good thing. âRoon Remoteâ clarifies the appâs function â what it actually does and does not do.
Putting just âRoonâ in the App Store or on Google Play draws in users who then think that Roon is a self contained phone/tablet app and cannot understand why, for example, they cannot stream Tidal or connect to their local music files on NAS.

And we get enough of these with it as Roon Remote so without I bet a lot more. They still donât do a good enough job of describing its architecture properly or putting it where you canât miss it, but then people will still ignore it as well regardless. So is human nature.
Please read the PS in my post for more places where Roon Labs still uses the now obsolete âRoon Remoteâ term:
Maybe its because I use ROCK, but I always think ROCK, Roon, and ARC. ROCK is the Server, Roon is app for accessing the server, listening and settings. ARC is more the remote, when youâre away from the server. Roon (the app), regardless of itâs on a PC, Mac or mobile device, pretty much does the same thing.
I think the change is for the better. Most people will associate Roon with the UI app, and work out if they need to run Server and Endpoints.
The change grounds the brand into whatâs important - the UI is what we interact with to enjoy music.
Improvements to explain/refine use of Server and Endpoints in the context of the change will follow elegantly I would think and end up with a clearer user experience for new users.
As for us that have been on the journey from the start, well, Iâm sure we can adapt ![]()
@Grasshopper: Or Roon Mobile instead of ARC?
I think this name change is an improvement. I have always found the name Roon Remote to be a bit confusing, The function of the app is to be a local Roon server controller and audio device. Since it has to be connected to the local lan, its a local device not a remote device. Adding a new app that does support remote connect but with less function has made the Roon Remote name to be even more confusing. Dropping Remote from the app name reduces this confusion.
There shouldnât even be a separate ARC app. Roon should merge the ARC function into the regular Roon app (Android/iOS). Itâs crazy that you have to launch one app while at home and a different app while away. They could even auto-detect whether the app should be running in ARC mode or not.
Why is it an issue that these are two different apps? At home I open Roon and away from home I open Roon Arc. They are two different ICONS on my phone and tablets.
