Amphetamine can be your friend.

I’m not talking about my mac going to sleep but the app closing while I’m just switching to my work apps. Amphetamine won’t help for this.

Ah, understood. I was hoping for a nice simple solution for you.

Hello @Maxime_Ealet ,

Can you please let us know the approximate date + time when you next notice the issue happen? We’ll activate diagnostics and check your Roon logs for clues around that time. Thanks!

Hi, I’m currently using Roon and in an hour it already happened two times. I removed the app and restart my back and installed a fresh version without luck

Hi @Maxime_Ealet,

Thank you for letting us know. We’ll inspect diagnostics at the relevant time once automatic reports reach our servers from the Mac.

In the meantime, to help narrow down whether this is UI-related or caused by RAATServer:

  1. Do the crashes occur when you’re playing to the System Output of the Remote or to another endpoint? Do they occur if you play to a Zone that is not managed by the Mac computer?

  2. Has this crash ever occurred in the foreground, not the background?

  3. Do you ever encounter dropouts or interruptions with music when Roon does not crash?

We’ll watch for your response. Thanks!

Hi,

  1. It happens on both system output of the remote & my endpoint. I can play arc at the same time without issue. I can play on my phone or endpoint from my phone without issue too.
  2. It always happened in the background for now as I’m working at the same time on my laptop. No other apps crashes/close itself
  3. Nope, Roon experience has been flawless till this happened.

Hi @Maxime_Ealet,
We haven’t been able to automatically collect diagnostics from your MacBook remote. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs from your MacBook to our File Uploader?

I just did it, thanks

Hey @Maxime_Ealet,

Thanks for your additional information so far!

You’ve mentioned work apps - are you running any third-party security or antivirus software on the mac? Are you running the Mac as well as your Roon Server machine across the same local subnet? Note that Roon isn’t able to function across multiple subnets.

With that, let’s see if refreshing your RAATServer database may help.

You can generate a new RAATServer instance on your device by following these instructions, but please be aware that this will reset your Roon Settings → Audio Tab to factory settings and I would advise making a backup of any custom DSP settings you have:

  • Create a Backup of your current Roon database
  • Exit out of Roon
  • Navigate to your Roon’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RAATServer”
  • Rename the “RAATServer” folder to “RAATServer_old”
  • Restart the Roon App to generate a new RAATServer folder

We’ll be on standby for your reply. Thank you!

No third party security nor antivirus on my Mac and nothing change for the last year except updates to apps and Mac os. When talking about database you mean the local one on the Mac not the Roon server on my NUC ?

Hi @Maxime_Ealet ,

Please try these steps on your Mac Remote (for your ~Library) Roon path. Also, it would be a good test to reinstall the rest of the Roon components, I have modified the instructions a bit:

Let’s try a fresh database and see if your issues persist:

  • Create a Backup of your current database
  • Exit out of Roon + RoonServer (from taskbar area)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server”, “RAATServer” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”, “RAATServer” to “RAATServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Connect to previous database

Here is the process outlined from a macOS machine:
