Roon Rock 2.0 - where to download

hi
the ROCK installation guide points to a img that was modified on Aug 2020, i don’t think this is the 2.0

pls point me to where i can download the img to update it on my ROCK with version 1

in the forum, it appears that 2.0 is RockOS 2.0, not Rock Server SW. just curious… is there a WebUI image for 2.0 ?

Roon OS 2.0 may eventually become available after it has been released (which is currently not the case).

@L_T1 - I’ve already told you the answer in your other thread…

As above.

Just download the 1.7 file and you’ll be prompted on your remote app to update to 2.0. It’ll take less than 5 mins.

thanks this is useful - just installed rock 1.0 build 227. i see how to update is via the web ui as needed, but how can you keep a track of when a new version of rock is released? also I think my m.2 drive is a little overspecced at 4tb ! I thought i could put music on there as well as the os and db. ah well will install a separate 4tb 2.5 ssd tomorrow. the rock guide is very well set out, thanks to all concerned

AFAIK, production releases of Roon OS are usually automatically updated on Nucleus and NUC/ROCK devices. Having said that, I think the latest production release is build 254, so you might want to manually reinstall Roon OS via the Web Administration Interface page to update to the latest release.

In addition to what @Geoff_Coupe wrote above, you can go to the software release area on the forum and set it to “watching”, then you get a forum notification (or email, depending on your forum settings) whenever a new version of anything is announced.

Can someone direct me to or simply provide here the actual download link for ROCK. Every link including the one on the download page simply forwards to an install guide with a discussion of what hardware is needed. Getting Windows is simple - straight download. Getting Mac is simple, click link get download. Rock… click the link and go on a wild goose chase… At least that’s haow it seems to me - I can’t be the only one. Thanks for the help

Step 3 in this article has the link to download the ROCK installer:

Thank You, I found it here: https://download.roonlabs.net/builds/roonbox-linuxx64-nuc4-usb-factoryreset.img.gz

That’s the link given in the article I referred to.

Thanks for that, I appreciate the help. The only thing was that it was several clicks to get there. Whereas the Windows and Mac downloads were directly on the download page.

Now I found the next challenge, Etcher keeps producing an error so I’ve been trying Rufus to flash the USB drive.

The first image shows the Roon instructions to Select “GPT Partition Scheme” UEFI (non CSM Target.

The 2nd image shows that when using Rufus my selections ability is greyed out and I’m only given the option to use MBR partition scheme and BIOS Target system.

Has anybody else encountered this. WIll it work or is there a workaround?

Thanks.

MBR vs GPT

The difference is that Roon for Windows or Mac is an application that will download and install onto a running operating system (Windows or MacOS), whereas the ROCK installer has to install both the Roon Server application AND the Roon Operating System (RoonOS) onto an empty NUC…

What’s the error, and what USB drive/stick are you trying to flash?
And what are you using, a PC, Mac or Linux?

Hi Jeff.
I finally got it to go. The first USB flash drive was an 8GB Kingston. Etcher unpacked the file, flashed, then verified to about 70% and simply put up a message “Failed” Now I cant access that drive. I tried again with a 64GB Sandisk Flash Dirve and it produced the same result 3 times. After restarting the PC, Etcher identified the drive and the 4th attempt completed.

I’ve been using a WIn 11 PC with 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-11800H with 32 GB RAM and RTX 3070 GPU so resources shouldnt be an issue. Anyway, it looks like i’ve got a flash drive ready to go for when my NUC shows up tomorrow. Thanks for asking. I may come back tomorrow when I attempt to install ROCK on the NUC but fingers crossed, it should go smoothly.

Hi all, I’ve been trying to download the ROCK image from the official install guide, but the link currently returns a 0 KB file. I’ve attempted this on multiple devices and browsers, and each time the file appears empty or corrupted.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Would appreciate any updates or a working mirror if available.

Thanks in advance!

I downloaded it right now from the ROCK install guide,

and it downloads roonbox-linuxx64-nuc4-usb-factoryreset-100000258.img.gz with 419.4 MB after unzipping to *.img, which seems fine. (My macOS automatically unzips, so I can’t easily say what the *.img.gz size is)
