Describe the issue

Multiple errors with Roon ROCK on Starlink

My Roon server (ROCK installed on an Intel NUC) has lately been showing multiple strange behaviors on my home network.

1. My computers are unable to access the internal storage SSD on the ROCK, so I'm having difficulty adding local files to the library.
2. Album art gradually stops displaying, except for local files that have embedded artwork. This can be fixed by restarting the server software but gradually gets worse over time (i.e., each new album added has no artwork, behavior expands to full library gradually).

Describe your network setup

Router: ASUS ROG GT-AX11000 Pro connected to Starlink gen 3 modem; the ROCK/NUC is connected to the router by a wired connection. No VPN is operating on the router itself.

ISP: Starlink

Laptop unable to access internal storage: Framework (AMD Ryzen 5) running Windows 11, latest build

ROCK - Serial #88AEDD0B3C1B; running Roon OS version 2.1 build 271 Production
* Internal storage = 500 GB Crucial SSD
* Intel NUC 11 Pro NUC11PAHi5
* Streaming service: Qobuz

Are you seeing a message asking to enter credentials like this?

If so, this is because Windows stopped allowing users to connect anonymously to network shares (with user “guest” and password “guest”), which is the only access offered by ROCK.

You need to explicitly tell Windows to allow that. See the section Method 1: Copy Music Over the Network (Recommended) on this Nucleus help page:

Your album art display issue sounds like a possible problem caused by poor DNS service but I’ll leave that to official support or others who have experience with Starlink.

I’m actually seeing this error. No authentication message ever shows up.

I’d still make the changes for the authentication as described on the linked Nucleus help page, if you haven’t done this before, because current Windows WILL need this in any case to access anonymous guest/guest network shares.

Also make sure that the network connection is set to „private“ in Windows, not „public“. Sometimes Windows updates reset this even if it was set to „private“ already in the past.

Thanks, that worked. I love “Unspecified error” codes … appreciate the help.

Great :slight_smile:

Is the album art loading solved, too?
