Describe your network setup

Fibre to the home into Asus RT86U router. Ethernet to Nuc10 i7 running Roon Rock. Roon end point connect via ethernet - Matrix x sabre3 and Rasberry Pi4s

Can you access the Web Administration Interface of your ROCK/NUC using a web browser?

If not, can you connect a monitor or a TV to the HDMI connection on the NUC and post a photo of what is displayed on the screen? Thanks.

Hello @Jezep

Thanks for the details. Since both endpoints lost connection at the same time, we need to check whether the ROCK system itself is running or if the Roon Server process has stopped.

Please try the following:

  1. Open the ROCK Web Interface
From any device on the same network, open a browser and go to:
    http://<IP_of_your_NUC>
If you don’t know the IP, check your ASUS router device list for the NUC.
  2. Send a screenshot of what the Web UI shows, especially:
  • Operating System status
  • Roon Server Software status
  • Storage status
  1. If you cannot access the Web UI:
  • Connect the NUC to a monitor or TV via HDMI
  • Power the NUC off, then on again
  • Send a photo of what appears on the screen
(This tells us whether Roon OS is booting correctly.)
  1. Confirm whether the NUC is connected directly to the router — not through a mesh or powerline adapter.

Hi Vadim,
I’m not sure how to get the IP address of my Rock.
Listed under devices on my router is a Rock MAC address 1C:697A:AB:D6:D2
The NUC is turned on and the blue led is on but it is not showing up as an active device on my network. Maybe the NUC is broken, how do I tell?

Hi @Jezep
If you do not see the IP-address of the NUC in your router, perhaps you first have to check the network cable of your NUC, our disconnect and reconnect the network cable between your NUC and your switch/router.
If the cable and the connection seems to be good but yo still are not able to get connection to the NUC, you can power off the NUC, wait a minute, and power it up again.
Another possible solution: restart your router. Sometimes this will also resolve those kind of issues.
This is at least what I would do.
Good luck, Frank.

Hi Frank,
I’ve tried all those things several times but nothing has worked.
I’m thinking the best way might be format the hard drive and reinstall Roon Rock software. Seems an easier fix than trying to fault find these issues.
Thank for your help.

Hello @Jezep,

Before reinstalling anything, it’s a good idea to connect the NUC to a TV or monitor via HDMI and check the IP address displayed there.

It would be useful if you could attach a photo of what you see there.

Hi Vadim,
I connected the NUC to a monitor, and it said the SSD was faulty.
I have purchased a new SSD and installed this into the NUC,
I will now go through the process of a new installation of ROCK on the NUC.
Hopefully this will fix the issue.
Thanks,
Joel.

Hello @Jezep

To help you with this process, we prepared a full step-by-step guide here:

Hi @Jezep,

Please reach out if you have any further questions after following the guide @vadim has shared above.

We’ll keep this thread open for an additional few days in case anything comes up. Thanks!

I’m not sure if my NUC is faulty, but when I try to boot from USB after setting the boot order in the bios, I get this error message:
secure boot violation
Invalid signature detected
check secure boot policy in setup

I have checked secure boot in the bios and it is enabled.

Er - you need to disable secure boot. The Help article says:

  • Disable Secure Boot: This is required for ROCK to be able to boot.

I’ve now updated the BIOS and completed a fresh installation of Roon Rock on the NUC and everything is working again.
Thank you all for your help.
