For many weeks I have been struggling with the problem of the roon server connection being disconnected on my MacBook 16" with Intel. When I listen to music streamed via WiFi on active Buchardt A700LE speakers with WISA, it disconnects after a few seconds of listening and displays information on the iPhone that the music from Tidal is loading slowly. I can rarely listen to several songs in a row without disconnecting. My internet speed is high enough and it is on a router with WiFi 6. Can someone advise me what else I can do to make it work ok? I will add that when I listen to music via AirPlay 2 it is much better, but sometimes you can hear that the connection is cutting out slightly.
Thank you for your post. Is your MacBook connected to the internet via ethernet, or WiFi?
The error message you’ve posted most commonly indicates that WiFi interference in the MacBook’s connection to Tidal’s servers has accumulated sufficiently for the buffer to fall behind the audio stream.
Please share a screenshot of the Signal Path in Roon - if Airplay 2 works better, it’s likely because that protocol is compressed and not lossless like RAAT. Lossless protocols, more vulnerable to packet loss, have a habit of revealing WiFi issues in the network.
Do you have a mesh network, or just a single router?
No matter what your network setup is like, there are important factors to keep in mind to ensure you are getting the best out of your Roon experience:
Your Roon Server should always have a wired connection
If your library is stored elsewhere on the network, always ensure that both your server and storage location are using a wired connection. Avoid WiFi between your server and media storage at all costs.
Avoid connecting high resolution/high performance audio devices to Roon via WiFi to ensure optimal performance.
A wireless connection from your remote device to your server is perfectly acceptable and expected in most cases.
