· I'm unable to connect to the Roon server, which is on my Mac, when the Mac is in sleep mode. I control Roon using the Roon app on my iPhone 13 Pro, and the Roon server is loaded on my Mac Mini M2Pro. Both devices have the latest Mac IOS and MacOS operating systems and updates, respectively. This is a relatively recent problem, but I didn't pay enough attention when it first occurred to enable me to correlate it with any particular software update, either on the Mac or Roon side. When the Mac is active, i.e., not in sleep mode, I can access Roon without a problem.

· Router is a TP-Link Deco 6E mesh system. My Mac, and usually my iPhone, are located in the same room as the router base unit with a very strong and fast WiFi signal. No VPN or any other complicating factors that I can think of.
This is expected behavior, Roon needs the server to be “on” when in use. Going in to the power settings and disabling sleep will allow Roon to be active, alternatively using an app like “amphetamine” will allow the screen to sleep while keeping the machine active.
This is quite normal, and depending on the sleep state, wake on LAN (wake for network access) may not work. Indeed, wake up over Wi-Fi is unreliable because the Mac’s Wi-Fi interface is usually powered down when in sleep mode.
A MacOS update likely changed the system configuration that enabled background apps to retain access to the network stack during sleep. Unfortunately, this isn’t something over which the operating system grants direct user/app control.
Wake On Lan isn’t always reliable, so the easiest way to prevent this condition is to download a third-party app (we recommend Amphetamine for Mac) to keep the display from hibernating.
