Describe the issue
Roon Server often/sometimes does not see my Oppo 203
Describe your network setup
Hi, despite my 203 being on Network Standby, Roon doesn't see it unless I switch it on first. Most of the time, even after I've switched on my 203, Roon STILL doesn't see it. What I then have to do is play something from the PC hosting the Roon Server over the network, and then the 203 appears in Roon.
I have the 205. Roon always sees the OPPO on the network when it is powered up. Not familiar with Network standby. You could try turning the standby feature off to see it that makes any difference.
Just a data point for you.
My 203 acts the same way. I have tried various settings (in network and device setup on the OPPO) and it needs to be turned on to be seen no matter which settings I changed.
It also leaves my TV on when I turn it off so the CEC control does not function the way I would want it to. The TV then switches to the “Over-the-air” source, which I don’t have, causing a static blast due to no/poor signal, very annoying. I then have to dig out my TV remote and turn it off. So, I do not use the OPPO for Roon anymore, so for me it’s not a big deal. I have other sources that function better for me.
Unfortunately, this is expected behavior. Given the age of the OPPO 203 and its specific implementation of network standby mode, Roon is not required to recognize the device when it is in this state. Some devices maintain active network discovery while in standby, but others—like the OPPO 203—may not reliably respond to Roon until they are fully powered on.
If you’re experiencing intermittent detection, manually waking the device before use or ensuring that it remains on during your listening sessions may help improve consistency.
