Roon Server missing but installation reports it's running (ref#YJHX4F)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

I cannot see Roon Server running but when i try to download and install Roon Server anew, I get a message saying that Roon Server is running.

Describe your network setup

I connect to the internet via the Google Mesh system (wifi) I do not use ethernet. My OS is the latest version of Windows 11.

Thanks for writing in! Let’s see if the following may help:

First, let’s see if we can terminate the hidden Roon Server process:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  • Click More details if in compact view
  • In the Processes tab, look for any of these and End Task on each:
    • RoonServer.exe
    • Roon.exe
    • RAATServer.exe
    • RoonAppliance.exe
After ending all of them, try launching Roon Server fresh.

If that doesn’t help, Roon sometimes installs as a background service:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, hit Enter
  • Scroll and look for any Roon-related service
  • If found, right-click → Stop, then set Startup type to Manual temporarily
  • Then try relaunching normally

Hi @Aman_Dhillon,

Just checking in on this. Were you able to end any hidden Roon processes in Task Manager, like RoonServer.exe or Roon.exe, and then try launching Roon Server again? If that did not do the trick, did you also get a chance to check for any Roon-related service in services.msc and stop it temporarily before relaunching?
