Roon server not booting due to M.2 drive failure (ref#E8WTLO)

Hi! What’s not quite right with Roon?

· Roon is slow, freezing or won’t start

Roon is slow, freezing or won’t start

· Roon won’t start up at all

Tell us what's going on

· Roon was slow for a month or so. Roon server will now not boot. Confirmed by plugging into HDMI directly and through lack of IP access. Top cover popped off the server. Motherboard light green. When M.2 boot drive removed server will boot but states "A bootable device has not been detected" (obviously). What is the best practices procedure to get this up and running?

· Roon dealer. Network is fine

Hey @roger1 ,

If the M.2 has failed, there are two options forward: you can either replace the SSD yourself and install ROCK, or we can start an RMA case and see if we can replace it in our service center (for a fee if the warranty has expired).

If you would like ot try the replacement yourself, please continue reading. Note that you’ll need a USB drive for this process that you can connect to a computer, and then the Nucleus.

The first thing you’ll want to do is purchase a new SSD. Here is a link to one SSD option we recommend to many users:

And here is a short video on how to replace the SSD on your device: Nucleus SSD replacement.mp4

After that, you’ll need to format the SSD. We have a good help article you can find here for next steps. Start from step #3 :

Essentially, you’ll be flashing the ROCK OS to a USB drive, and using it to boot and format the new SSD in your Nucleus.

Once you’ve successfully flashed ROCK onto the new SSD, keep your Nucleus online and let us know by filling out this form. From there, we can update you to the Nucleus OS on our end. :+1:

If you would rather have the unit serviced by us, please let us know and fill out our RMA contact form. We’ll be on standby for any questions you have in the meantime!

Hi @roger1,

Please let us know which pathway you end up choosing from here. We’re happy to assist further. Thank you!
