Roon Server on Mac crashes when i add music after latest update

Describe your network setup

It's not the network, just the app is not working after update

After applying the update my Roon isn’t working. I’ve brought it back to default state and just wanted to start over. I remove the 3 Roon folders in the ~/library/, and I also move all my music and their folders to the Pictures folder. So now when I start the app i have to configure it all over (fine). Login with my subscription, choose the music folder on the drive (no music currently in there). After I get in and it’s a clean slate, I start to move about 3 folders into the Music folder to add it to the library, then Roon just borks… Now this music folder is on a installed separate SSD installed inside my 2014 Mac mini.

I just removed the 3 album folders from the music folder, so now there is nothing in it. Roon opens fine now. I can also see it on my iPhone with the Roon Remote app.

Choose 3 different music folders, move them over the music folder, and Roon server fails…

If there anything else I can try to get this to work? Did this update break having your music on a different hard drive then what is running MacOS?

This seems to be an issue after the update affecting several people with macOS servers. Removing the newly added albums seems to fix it again.

What is the version of your macOS?

Next update: I was able to add 16 folders with .aiff files and those albums add fine the the library and Roon is working. As soon as I add a folder with .flac files it fails.

Remove the folder with .flac files and Roon runs properly. Add a folder with .wav and it fails. Remove .wav and it works. Able to keep adding .aiff files fine… no issues there. Seems .m4a files work too, though i only added one folder with those so far.

I’m running MacOS Catalina 10.15.7.

Since i started over, seems i can only add .aiff files to the library, .flac files crash it.

Same macOS version as in the other affected cases. This might only affect this particular OS version, possibly. And others also reported that .aiff works. Anyway, until there is a fix, moving the newly added flac albums back out of the music folder seems to work around it.

Appreciate the response and letting me know others are having issues too.

Same issue here you’re not alone. Just as you described it. :expressionless:
Will wait till a fix comes out.

Exact Same issue for me.
Catalina 10.15.7, if I add a SINGLE file to the Roon library folder (I only have FLACs), it immediately crashes the the app and says something went wrong, looking for core.
Following this thread, here’s hoping a solution arises.

Hi @Scott_Garrow,
Thanks for your report. I activated diagnostics mode for your account to look for the file causing this problem. Can you please turn on your server for a few minutes so the diagnostics request can go through. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience.

Hi Daniel. I’ve started up my Mac with the Roon Server software and I’ve launched up the full application. I’ll leave it on for a couple hours. Please let me know if there is anything else to to, or if we need to wait until an application update to allow .flac files to be added to our libraries.
Thanks

I just saw that a new release came out to fix the issues. I was now able to add a folder .flac files and it seems to be working…

thanks.
