Roon server restart constantly when added a NAS music folder

Symptom: Roon server restart constantly when added a specific NAS music folder. When I remove the specific NAS music folder, it can work normally (playback music for over 12 hours). The specific NAS music folder path is
\\192.168.10.62\Music\TestBed

Core machine:
CPU: intel J3160
DRAM: DDR3 8GB
System Disk: SSD 256 GB
Roon OS version: 1.0 (build 174) stable
Core version: 1.6 (build 401) stable 64bit

Environment:
a PC with samba server enabled as a storage connected with GbE to the Roon Server machine. The player a Pure Audio Lotus DAC5 connected to the USB port on the Roon Server machine.

Log file:

Roon uses the SMB protocoll to connect to remote storage locations.
Path to access a network share: \\<Host Name or IP-Address>\<Share Name>[\<Folder Name>]
[] denotes optional parts of the path.

Not a valid path: \\192.168.10.62, Music : \TestBed

Special Characters

Don’t use “special” characters in the names of files and folders. These will cause problems with the import process. Avoid using:

< (less than), > (greater than), : (colon - sometimes works, but best avoided), " (double quote), / (forward slash), \ (backslash), | (vertical bar or pipe), ? (question mark), * (asterisk), $ (dollar sign), ` (backtick), and ~ (tilde)

Hi @BlackJack,

Thank you for reply, the path I used is correct but the post description may make you confused. I have edit the post to correct the description.

I suspect in the case of illegal characters in the file or folder name, the Roon server will skip the file without being restart constantly.

Then you have to wait until @support can take a look your log files. I’m sure they can tell you what’s going on.

Possibly a corrupt file in that folder structure. I’ve had a DSD file that crashed my core.

Hi @Chorus_Chuang,

I am looking through the logs you sent (thank you for uploading those) and see that analysis abruptly stops on these two tracks:

url=/roon/sys/storage/smbmounts/RoonStorage_ce76bc3a4a78932264810b660088c40b25ca6252/TestBed/WAV/44.1KHz_16bits/蔡琴/機遇/08-.wav

Can you try moving these files out of your TestBed folder and try adding the folder again? Please do not delete these files just yet because if we narrow the crashing down to one of these two files, I will kindly request you to send them over for diagnostics purposes for a QA investigation.

Thanks,
Noris

Hi @Chorus_Chuang,

Apologies for the continued difficulties here and thank you for sending me those new files. This is going to be my last attempt at locating the offending files before I ask the QA team to review
Can you try to move these files out of the testbed folder?

Hi @noris

I had ever added these two folders “TestBed/DSF” and “TestBed/DSD” and no issue found.
In order to speed up the process, do you need us to narrow down which folder or which file cause this problem by manually added separate folders in the TestBed?

Best regards,
Chorus

Hi @noris,

It is no problem to do these process and also thank you very much for helping.

I moved out these five files in addition and it try adding the folder again.
It still have problem.

Here is the log:

Hi @noris

Good news is that I narrow down to a folder named “WAV64” under TestBed causing the problem. I will check which file in this folder caused this problem and share the file to you.

Best regards,
Chorus

Hi @noris

The problematic file is here:

Hi Chorus,

Thank you for locating that file and sending it over. I will forward it to QA and ask them to take a closer look, but since removing that file, has RoonServer stopped restarting and everything it stable?

Hi @Chorus_Chuang,

I know this issue has been solved, but just wanted to mention that we’ve just released Roon 1.7 (Build 500) which includes changes that should improve this behavior for .w64 files and prevent the crashes you were seeing.

You can read the full release notes here:

Thanks,
