Roon Server unable to detect audio endpoints on mesh subnet after OS change to Linux (ref#DP8OGF)

What best describes your playback issue?

· My DAC, streamer, or speaker doesn't appear as a Zone in Roon

Please try to reboot your Roon Server and check to see if this helps.

· Rebooting my Server had no effect, the issue remains

Are you having an issue with a single Zone or multiple Zones?

· The problem occurs on several of my Zones but not all of them.

Please fully reboot the audio device and wait twenty seconds.

· I rebooted my audio device, the issue remains

How is the affected Zone connected to your RoonServer machine?

· Network - WiFi

Which network audio protocol is the Zone using with Roon?

· RoonReady

Does the device show up at all in Roon Settings -> Audio?

· No, it does not show up there

Does the device play audio from another source when using the same connection?

· The device has no problems with another audio source

Have you checked that Roon is whitelisted in any firewalls?

· I've checked the firewall and the issue remains

Since you are using a network connection to the device, please ensure that your RoonServer is on the same subnet as the device

· My devices are on a single subnet but is not visible to Roon

Do you have a complex network setup?

· I have a *mesh network* with devices connected to multiples points

Your local network might need some re-arranging to support Roon.

· None of the suggestions have helped me. I'd like to submit a support request.

What are the make and model of the affected audio device(s) and the connection type?

· See Above

Describe the issue

My Roon Server is wired connected to the router. It can see all the audio endpoints also wired connected to the router but not the audio enpoints connected to the mesh subnet. This problem emerged when I changed the OS of the Roon server from MacOS to Linux. How do I start to fix it?

Describe your network setup

Roon Server: Mac Mini running Linux (ip: 192.168.1.105), this is wire connected to the moder/router. The Modem/Router is wired into a Tenda Mesh router. The audio endpoints that I can't see are connected to the Mesh network: they are a RPi running Roopieee (192.168.5.74) and and Audio Pro (192.168.5.75) with AirPlay2.

The server and endpoints should be on the same subnet. Discovery isn’t possible when using a VLAN or different subnet without advanced Tinkering.

This is not an OS-related matter. Did your last non-Linux server also utilize a Wi-Fi connection?

Hi @Francesco_Bailo,

Please see the above response from one of our Roon moderators. You’ll need to place these endpoints within the same subnet as your RoonServer and Roon Remote machines.

Yes, that’s what I don’t understand. The networking configuration hasn’t changed. The only thing that changed is the OS on the Mac Mini. Is it possible that now the mesh router is firewalling it out while before it was whitelisted?

No, you simply have two subnetworks. Most likely, the Mac Mini had both Ethernet and Wi-Fi enabled, and this was setup to do the routing.

If you did not intend to use subnets, you may be able to setup the mesh to obtain IP addresses from the gateway router, so all devices share the same subnet.
