I have not used Roon for 2 years as I was away and no access. When I ran Roon on my Windows 10 desktop it started, and played music, but asked to do an update. The update failed and now I'm getting the 'Your Roon Server doesn't seem to be running." message. I have tried all the options suggested in the help. I do have a backup made from Roon 2 years ago. How to proceed? thx
Describe your network setup
Roon is on my Windows 10 desktop. The router and modem are from Telus, a provider in Canada. I'm not getting to the point that the network is an issue.
@xstatic, Roon has made significant changes over the past two years. I recommend you download a fresh copy of Roon here and install over your current Windows version:
While installed simultaneously, Roon has separated the Roon Server application from the Roon application, the latter now running only as a graphical front-end to the Roon Server app. Roon Server needs to be started and running on your Windows 10 PC, but there is no graphical way to see that it is running; the Roon app will confirm this. This is explained here:
Jim and Robert thx very much for your responses… when I try “Select a different server” I get a message that says “If you select a different server you won’t be able to access the music you had before. Is that what you want’?” Yikes! Do you know what that means? Will I lose my history and settings in Roon? Will the same thing happen if I reinstall as Robert has suggested or can the history/settings be restored from my Roon backup?
@xstatic, selecting that won’t change anything or make you lose any settings. Sometimes Roon hiccups and the registration connection between your Roon Server and Roon’s cloud-based systems get of our synchronization, so selecting that option re-connects everything. If however that does not resolve your issue, let us know.
HI Robert_F and JIm_F… I tried “Select a different server” but no success. I installed a fresh copy of Roon and everything is working! It was very quick and I’m so happy to have Roon back… thank-you both again for your help. xstatic
