Roon skipping songs. Please let me control this behavior even if it means there's a delay when starting playback.

Description of Issue

Roon skips songs. Either I’ll click on a track to play and it will immediately skip to the next song or it will skip songs in the queue. Sometimes it’ll keep on going down the list until it runs out of songs and I’m left in silence.

I was prompted to finally post here after trying to play a song (this one was from Tidal but it happens with Qobuz just as often) and it kept skipping. I tried no less than ten times and then I began spam clicking the play button until finally it started playing the song. So I probably clicked 30 or more times to get it to play. I was seeing red after this nonsense.

This happens on both the M17 and the Mojo. Does not matter where I am in relation to my APs. The experience I described above was in a spot where I could reach out and touch the nearest AP.

I do not have hardware issues. I do not have wireless signal issues. I do not have internet issues. I really just want Roon to behave differently when there’s an issue playing a song. Let it sit and think and re-attempt playback for more than 1 second before it skips a song. Give me some way to adjust this behavior, please.

Thank you.

I don’t know the M17, but my Roon WiFi experience with Chord (Hugo 2+2Go) and A&K (SP1000M) has been similar to yours on two locations (AmpliFi on one, UniFi on the other). OTOH, I have a 3rd location where WiFi (AmpliFi) works well with iFiZen Stream and a Linn system. After a lot of experimentation, I’ve concluded that the problem is that the Roon RAAT protocol is more sensitive to bursty packet loss from WiFi congestion than other protocols, and some endpoints have weaker WiFi than others. This turns out to be difficult to catch, but I finally caught it when I recorded coincidences between IGMP ping pack losses and track skipping.

@Colby_Meyer, the behavior you are experiencing tends to be related to network issues on your LAN. The Mojo/Poly combination is limited to the crowded 2.4 GHz WiFi band, is it possible to move this close to one of your APs? Not sure if that can help if your WiFi environment is crowded/noisy, but it may improve the network connection.

The M17 supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, but I can’t tell what WiFi protocol(s) it supports. Assuming your APs are at least dual-band, do you have separate SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz band and either or both 5 GHz bands? I separate my WiFi bands so I can control which devices connect to what band, trying where possible to connect the higher-bandwidth devices to the 5 GHz bands.

Do you have a mobile phone you can also try to connect via WiFi as a Roon Remote to your Core and see if this behavior continues? And are your APs connected via Ethernet cable to your Edge router?
