Describe the issue

This is something very new. I reset my laptop which is the Roon Server a few days ago. Reinstalled Roon and Tidal apps. I run off both Ethernet and WiFi. My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5; AMD Ryzen 7 w/ Radeon Graphics; 16 GB RAM; 64 Bit OS; Windows 11 Home.

Before this reset Roon would Open up in seconds.

Hi @Fred_Sistrunk ,

Welcome to the forum! I’ve activated diagnostics for your account so next time you use Roon, it should deliver logs to our servers for review. A few other questions until logs come in -

  1. How long is the average delay now?
  2. If you disable/throttle on-demand + background audio analysis in Roon Settings → Library, does that help at all?
  3. Did you restore from backup or start with a fresh install?
  4. Is there any change in startup without the docking station? I have sometimes seen a driver interaction with docks cause issue.

I rebooted 3 X to answer your questions:

  1. How long is the average delay now?
1st reboot = 5 min; 2nd reboot after disable throttle on demand = 6 min; 3rd reboot after disconnect from docking station 15 sec. (I’ve been using this same docking station for the duration of my Roon subscription. This is first time for this problem.
  2. Throttle on demand - disabled.
  3. No, not from back up. Fresh install.

Hey @Fred_Sistrunk,

Thanks for the additional info!

We were able to review a fresh diagnostic report, and saw some errors in relation to the following album:

 'E:\FS Music BU 6-2-24\X - Y - Z 4.54 GB\ZZ Top\Fandango! [Bonus Tracks]\Folder.jpg'

If you remove this album from your storage directory, do you still run into delays in startup?

Thinking about this a bit more, have you added any other albums recently since you’ve noticed this behavior? It may be worth testing this further and checking if any additional albums could be playing a role in the delay.

Hi @Fred_Sistrunk,

Thank you for your post.

Two things occurred during the first two, slower startups:

  1. Tidal sync occurred, updating your playlists and other content to match the current status of your Tidal library via the API. This required some processing but shouldn’t have slowed startup.

  2. RoonServer couldn’t successfully reach files in the file share location hosting your library. On the third startup, it accessed this location without issue.

If you encounter a slow startup with the dock back in place, try disabling Tidal and restarting. Re-enable Tidal and instead disable your local Watched Folders and unmounting your local library location.

No other albums were added and the targeted album has been on file in my library for years. It was removed. If fact I’m removing the 1TB Turo Mobile USB 3.0 extern drive permanently. After removal, Roon startup appears normal, roughly 10 sec. he dock and Tidal in place still.

Please let me know what you see on your end.

Hi @Fred_Sistrunk,
We requested a new set of diagnostics but they haven’t gone through yet. If you turn your Roon Server on for a few minutes it should be able to go through.

Average startup time now is between 15-20 seconds without external HDD attached. Much quicker, but is this normal. Are there any new analytics on your side?

Hi @Fred_Sistrunk ,

Thanks for letting us know of this improvement! I am looking over you latest log set, but I am not seeing any errors of note. One thing which I did notice is that it looks like your have a lot of old links to media which has since been removed. I would try to create a Backup of your Roon database (for safekeeping), connect all your music drives that you’d like to use with Roon and then perform a Library Cleanup and see if performance improves even further:
