Roon stability

Hi,

My roon server is my home office computer. I have a pretty good computer and there is not much in it, except few Excel sheets, MS Office, Outlook.

I use it basically only as a Roon server and to browse the web.

My network is very strong. I have a 1 gbps modem, a very good router and the average speed is 500 to 600 mbps when I use the 5G network.

I always keep it on the 5G network to get the full speed and the stability. I have 3 sets of KEF LS5-W II, and 11 Sonos units.

I tried Roon few years ago for a while, but it was not stable at all. So I decided to quite.

I recently improved my network and decided that it was time to try again Roon.

Yesterday, I downloaded it and install it on my computer. It worked well all day long yesterday, but since this morning, I can’t use the Roon Ready devices (The KEF LS50W II) nor the Roon Tested (the Sonos system) for more than 15 minutes. Every time, it just stop working.

I have to restart my computer to make it work. 2 times today, I unplugged my modem and my router before restarting my computer. It is still very unstable.

What should I do to fix my problem?

Thank you,
Louis

Do you mean 5 GHz Wi-Fi? If so, perhaps that’s contributing to your problem. With so many endpoint devices, you really need a wired network connection.

There may be other issues, but I’d start with this.

Thak is possible!
Thank you!

I’ve had similar issues. Getting my Roon Server connected to Ethernet solved it here.

I think you are unlucky as you only have problematic devices. I have none of them and forgot details, but if you search the forum for Sonos you will find lots of recent threads about current Sonos trouble.

The KEF are known to be weak on wifi, so wire them if you can. I can’t remember if there are other issues, but a few days ago a Roon update was put into testing with a fix, so clearly something can’t be right. This should make it to a production update in a week or so:

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your comments

The upcoming fix was confirmed by another KEF user, so maybe there’s hope for this part:

As for the Sonos, I’m not sure if that’s what you experience, but there is a tracking thread for a recent issue here (and links to other related threads from there) and some users seem to have discovered workarounds:

Great, thanks. I’ll be looking for that update.

You would have to switch everything over to Early Access, so it seems better to wait a week, unless you like to run test versions.

Roon Labs will surely extend your trial
