Roon stuck in 'connecting' state with red mark on startup (ref#I914ET)

Is Roon Server running?

· No, Roon Server is not running.

For Roon connectivity to work properly, both Roon Server and Roon Remote need to be turned on.

· I can't turn on Roon Server, I need help.

Describe the issue

As soon as it starts up, it stays in the 'connecting' state, with a red mark constantly showing, and I can't press the connect button.

Describe your network setup

I don't know the details. This problem occurred after the free trial period ended.

Hey @shionshimada0529,

Thanks for writing in and welcome to the community! We’re excited to have you here but also apologize in that it’s an issue that prompted your recent post.

As a first step in troubleshooting - I see you’r running both Roon and Roon Server on a Mac, can you verify your Mac firewall settings have listed Roon as a proper exception? An easy and quick way to test this can be to temporarily disable your mac firewall, reboot Roon and Roon Server and see if you can connect.

Here’s more information around Firewalls with Roon:

Somea additional details around your network setup would be helpful as well. How is your Mac connected to your router? Do you have any active VPNs within your setup?

Thank you! :raised_hands:

Thank you for your response. I’ve checked the firewall and other settings, and there are no issues. I’m not using a VPN. While reviewing the settings, Roon did briefly launch and connect once, but I couldn’t press the play button for any songs. I’m really frustrated…‪🥲‎ I’ve already paid for the service, and actually, it’s been like this for quite a while now.

Hi @shionshimada0529,

Thanks for reaching back out. It sounds like you missed out on most of your free trial before being billed - we can certainly reach out to the @accounts team to discuss a trial extension at a later time, or other options.

In your original screenshot, RoonServer itself doesn’t appear to be running as a background process in the Menu Bar, but it might be listed in the dropdown. Can you confirm that RoonServer itself, and not just the GUI, is open? Check in the Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor).

On an all-in-one device hosting both Roon and RoonServer, you’ll still need both applications running. Roon connects to RoonServer on the same device as if it were a remote.

Additionally verify that Roon has local network access in your Privacy & Security settings on MacOS.

Where were you changing settings such that you were able to connect temporarily? Was this in MacOS, or in the router itself?

We’ll watch for your response.

Hello Connor,

Thank you for your support. Following your advice, I restarted my Mac and checked RoonServer, and it’s now working properly. I’ve also granted Roon local network access permission in the macOS Privacy & Security settings.

Regarding the trial period, I would greatly appreciate an extension if possible. Now that the system is functioning correctly, I would like to fully explore and evaluate the service’s features. I’m considering purchasing the lifetime plan if I find it meets my needs.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards

Hi @shionshimada0529,
We’re glad to hear Roon is working properly for you now. I will have our accounts team get in contact with you via private message about the possibility of an extension to your trial period. This thread will remain open a couple more days in case there is another connection issue.
