Thank you for reaching out. A big thanks to BlackJack for stepping in quickly with the correct information!
As mentioned above, the recent Roon update introduced new minimum system requirements. Because the native QNAP operating system relies on older software libraries that Roon can no longer support, the standard Roon Server package will no longer run and shows as “Stopped.”
To get your system back up and running, you will need to transition your Roon Server to our new, official Docker-based installation. Docker allows Roon to run in an isolated environment with all the modern libraries it requires, ensuring stability and performance on your NAS.
A quick tip for your migration: You do not have to start from scratch! Before setting up the Docker container, make sure you know where your previous Roon backups are stored on your NAS. Once the new Docker container is up and running, simply click the “Restore from backup” link on the initial Roon login screen to bring back all your playlists, metadata, and settings exactly as they were.
Please take a look at the guide, and let us know if you have any questions or run into any trouble during the setup. We are here to help!
Our diagnostics servers indicate you might have spun up a temporary server on another machine in the meantime. The QNAP hasn’t been seen in a few days, either in a Container or the bare QNAP install.
Do you still require some assistance setting up the container to migrate to the docker version of Roon on QNAP?
I’ve completed to Step 4 including Validate but lost confidence at that point and left the Roon Server on my PC. Any help via a link up would be appreciated.
It is completely understandable to lose confidence at Step 4! Dealing with Docker volume mappings and YAML configuration code can be very intimidating, especially if it is your first time setting something like this up. Don’t worry, you are actually right at the finish line.
Regarding your request for a “link up” or remote screen-sharing session: Roon Support handles all technical assistance directly through the Community forums, so we do not offer live remote sessions. However, we can do the heavy lifting for you right here!
If you can show me how your folders are set up on your NAS, I can write the exact code you need. All you will have to do is copy and paste it, and click “Create.”
Here is what we need to get started: Please open the File Station app on your QNAP and take a full-screen screenshot showing the specific folder where your Music and Containers foldesrs is stored. If your Roon Backups are kept in a different folder, please take a screenshot of that location as well.
This will allow me to see the exact folder structure your QNAP uses. Once you reply with those screenshots, I will write out your custom configuration code and walk you through the final click to get your NAS server back online!
