I have 3 DACs, my goal is to connect the DACs to my streamer at the same time.
I called Lumin in HK today, so happy that a human answered, was really helpful but broke the news to me that I cannot A/B the two USB ports out to 2 different DACs. That’s a missed opportunity… Understand it’s probably a limitation, but disappointed nonetheless. I’m sure I’m not the only one…to have said this.
What about the other dig output ports? Can I use them to connect to other DACs to A/B? without having to unplug something? example: USB into my Spring Coax into my Wandla.
Can I setup custom upsampling per port?
Sorry, have never owned a LUMIN, really appreciate any feedback.
A/B comparison is by definition an instant switch scenario. While you can switch between inputs & outputs the transition won’t be instantaneous so A/B comparisons won’t be practicable as far as I know.
@wklie will be able to advise further (when available)…
Sorry, I probably shouldn’t say A/B because it brings up this idea of instant switching to compare. It’s more like today I wanna hear this DAC, tomorrow I wanna hear that one… how does that work and look with the Lumin?
I think I can connect one DAC on the USB and one on the SPIDIF? Then choose the output in Lumin app?
While i do, sometimes, select different outputs from a single transport, most of the well designed one’s will not allow a simultaneous output over USB as well as any of the SPDIF-based interfaces.
And when a single transport allows both, you still need to adapt the stream as SPDIF only accepts DSD64 DoP, if even that (depends on the DAC), and PCM24-192.
The USB (or possibly I2S) might allow formats way, way higher.
Anyways, when you’ve come to the conclusion that 24/192 and DSD64 DoP is all you need, some DDC’s (Denafrips, Singxer, Holo etc) allow more than one coaxial/BNC output.
So does IAN Canada’s Raspberry kits:
