Roon using Google Nest Hub 2 as Display

I thought it, but wasn’t man enough to write it out

I am looking at the latest Android images now, as the one I previously used was Android 12 and I put out about 12 large touch screens based on that.
It wasn’t perfect but they were solid and running for months at a time.

Is the idea that you plug a mouse and keyboard in to set it up/customize it/etc?

You would not really need a TV, just something that could either connect via HDMI or the Pi ribbon cable (which I have not used in a long time and found very fiddly at the time)

Probably just leave it plugged in and running when in use and then just leave one app running on it (in this case a Cast Receiver). I want to see if it has progressed in the two to three years since I spent day after day building some of these to be used as part of a large Warehouse Management System that we were putting out.

It might reasonable need a mouse to restart the app, but I will have a look and see where it might be now. Android was pretty stable on the Pi 4 even a couple of years ago

And absolutely not, but I could not really leave one that hanging

So this is ugly, and I’m not going to buy this specific thing, but…

This monitor: https://www.amazon.com/LONCEVON-12-1920x1080P-Portable-VGA-AV-USB-BNC-Raspberry/dp/B088FRYSFZ/ref=sr_1_19?crid=1UK9ZZJKT2HOY&keywords=small+monitor+hdmi&qid=1702924274&sprefix=small+monitor+hdmi%2Caps%2C160&sr=8-19&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840

this mount:

and an Apple TV gets you a pricey but interesting solution.

yes, i’ve also checked this type of screens on amazon. but if i add a chromecast hdmi stick, what can i do finally? skip, read the lyrics on the screen?

So I did my original testing on a screen like this and it worked perfectly and the resolution was perfect for what we were using at the time

i’ve seen this one

https://www.amazon.de/ELECROW-Touchscreen-funktioniert-Bildschirm-Lautsprecher/dp/B0BHHQLKPY/ref=sr_1_7_sspa?crid=2VO5EMGHERS8N&keywords=monitor+10+zoll&qid=1702924937&s=computers&sprefix=%2Ccomputers%2C74&sr=1-7-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1

looks nice and no names in front. hdmi is a little bit “inside” so that adding a chromecast would not be visible…

Probably not much which is why I think it might be more interesting to use an Apple TV with the TV:Remote app than a Chromecast stick.

The TV:Remote app is a Roon extension. It has settings you can manage within Roon:

Using the Apple TV remote, you can access transport controls (play/pause, prev, next, scrub):

Adjust the volume (though not with the volume controls on the remote since that’s controlling the TV):

And even browse your library, choose content:

It would be a better approach if it supported touch sensitivity, but Apple TV doesn’t do that. Still…would be a pretty competent little setup.

WOW…

lyrics visible?

I had issues with a screen like this one as it wanted 1080P and it could not cope with it.
For your uses though it might be perfect.

Forgive the mess on my desk but I have a Pi in an Argon One case running Android now.

I will return tomorrow and test out some of the casting apps. Touchscreen here would actually be good as you can just tap on the screen to start and close the apps

Not as far as I can tell. It could be there but I looked but couldn’t find it.

That’s still a very nice setup :+1:

Most definitely but you could do something like that with any TV at all.

You could have an electrician put a power outlet up on the wall. If you have an outlet somewhere near the baseboard, they can possible tap directly into that. Then you can just mount the TV on the wall and attach an Apple TV (or any device you like) to the back of the TV.

I like your room as well as your taste in music!

I have a Frame for the bedroom and they are great TVs. They are run from a single nearly invisible cord that brings both power and signal from a set box to the display. So no need to do any weird wiring really.

You’d need wiring (or some solution) if you wanted to stick an Apple TV, or some other source component that takes power behind it.

i have all my powercords etc here

so this means that if i move the vinyl covers and add the 32" the frame screen here…and yes, i have photography as my hobby  (this means i can add my photos here) and side effect use the screen as a roon screen incl. apple tv (which i have somewhere, from my previous tv-life)…it would be a nice setup, i think.

sell raspberry pi, sell google nest hub 2nd gen…

the tv itself is around 269 chf (swiss franc)…which are 344 usd or 272 gbp

thank you  i love hip hop, rock and other good music. learned to listen to everything…

Not possible at this time
