Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II (wired), Synology NAS (wired), Roon remote on MacBook Pro (wired)
Number of Tracks in Library
Nas has maybe 10000, Roon can not connect so sees ZERO
Description of Issue
Running a new core on a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge II Roon Core. When trying to access the music stored on my Synology NAS I am met with âUnexpected errorâ. No amount of variant descriptions, ip address, SMB shares, etc. works. Sysnology is set to accept incoming requests on either SMB3 or SMB2. I tried SMB1 (not recommended by Sysnology) but it fails as well.
Does anyone know how to access files on the Sysnology NAS (on the same network as the core).
And, yes, I read the help file, tried all the access routes (which all work on other computers on the network), but Roon fails to find it.
Can you share the details of the format of the library path you are specifying in Roon for the Mytek to point to the Synology?
It probably looks something like smb://192.x.x.x/music
Of course, you will also need to specify credentials for the Roon core to connect to that SMB share; and that share must be configured in DSM File Sharing to provide read access for that credentialed user on your music folder and all subfolders.
You are correct. The share is located at smb://192.xxx.x.xx, and can also be located at smb://DiskstationXXX. Any of the computers on teh network can find and login to the NAS as well as the Music folder and its subfolders.
Credentials entered into Roon for access are the same as those for all the other machines which can access.
I have tried:
smb://192.x.x.x
smb://192.x.x.x/Music
smb://DIskstationXXX
smb://DiskstationXXX/Music
I even tried forward slashes and http addresses, but nothing seems to work. I can access both the Mytek local files and the NAS from any other machine on the network, but Roon can not find/connect with the NAS
Thanks for your help DDPS. Answers to your questions are as follows:
1a. Yes, the Firewall is on, however port 80, 443, and 53 are âallow allâ. As a test I tuned the firewall off and Roon was still unable to connect.
1b. IP auto block is on but is set to 10 attempts in 5 minutes. Also tried turning this off⌠to no avail.
SMB is on, Maximum protocol is SMB3, Minimum SMB is SMB2. I had tried earlier to set Minimum to SMB1 (against Synology recommendations), but that did not work either.
An update to the continuing FAIL of Roon being able to see music stored on the Synology NAS.
I found a comment in the archives regarding special characters in the user login password for the NAS. I did have a â-â (a dashâŚuncertain whether this is considered âspecialâ). I changed the user password to just alphanumeric. This of course FAILED as every other attempt has FAILED.
Once again access to the NAS is flawless with every other device on the networkâŚexcept Roon. Why did I pay for a lifetime subscription to something that does not work? And why is it impossible to speak to a human at RoonâŚsame answer I suspect.
As a reminder: Roon does not have its own SMB implementation, it simply uses (or tries to) the implementation provided by the underlying OS it runs on. The OS it runs on in this case is provided by Mytek. If the OP has full (root) access to that OS he can try to troubleshoot the issue on its own (look at system level log files for example). If not, I suggest he contacts Mytek support too to help him get to the bottom of this issue.
Yes, I have already tried both the name and the ip address in both SMB and non SMB with both forward and backslashes, as well as not adding the âMusicâ subfolder and all with with same failed results.
smb://Diskstationxxx/Music = fail
smb://192.168.x.xxx/Music = fail
smb://Diskstationxxx = fail
smb://192.168.x.xxx = fail
\192.168.x.xxx\Music = fail
\Diskstationxxx\Music = fail
\192.168.x.xxx = fail
\Diskstationxxx = fail
both username and PW are only alphanumeric with no âspecialâ characters
Iâll can confirm that my Synology SMB are identical to whatâs pictured in your screenshot.
In case itâs relevant, I also have NTLM v1 authentication enabled in the âothersâ tab of the SMB Advanced Settings dialogue.
In the past, Iâve found Synologyâs logging helpful for debugging access issues. Have you looked there? You need to first check âEnable Transfer Logâ, repeat the problematic behavior, and then click View Logs.
Bu that did not help the situation. Roon is still unable to access the folders.
As for logs there is nothing within Synology logs that there has even been an attempt to gain access to the folders let alone any failed attempts. The âEnable Transfer Logâ has been on the entire time and there is not a single entry. System logs show all the logins from all the other devices but no indication of even an attempt from the Brooklyn (or its ip address)

I suspect this has nothing to do with either Roon or the NAS. But rather the Mytek integration of a Roon Core on the Brooklyn Bridge II. Youâd probably have better luck finding help if you put that in the thread title.
Have you tried moving your Core (we call it a Server now, I guess) to another computer to see if that works to access the NAS files?
Thatâs another idea worth trying.
From the Mytek product page:
Mytek OS is a software platform that is continuously expanded with new functionality added. Software upgrade happens the same way as on any computer: upon ânew softwareâ notification user can choose to download and update the system. New software contains new features and fixes.
It would be nice if they told you what is in the OS right now.
Iâm just repeating what @BlackJack and @Bill_Janssen have already - youâve very comprehensively debugged this issue. It seems like a Mytek problem. Hope you figure something out.
