Description of Issue

Room will not open. I tried rebooting my device and uninstalling and reinstalling Roon, but still having the same issue. There was a recent Microsoft update that may have triggered this, but I don’t know how to fix apart from what I have already done.

Any error message when attempting to start it?

No error message. The icon just spins like it is loading, but it never does.

Next step after rebooting is try reinstalling it:

Yes, I tried that, no luck. I also tried to download the .Net framework, but the system won’t let me because I already have the latest version.

I missed that you had tried reinstalling. Did you check step 3, firewall, and step 4, graphics drivers?

No worries. Yes, I disabled the firewall. I haven’t tried the drivers. That is getting a little above my troubleshooting expertise I think, but I might try it.

As it’s a Microsoft Surface I suppose Microsoft should manage to not cause graphics driver problems but you can check by following their instructions here:

Other than that, you can check if the Windows Event Viewer is logging any application errors. There are some instructions e.g. here:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-to-view-windows-application-errors-using-window-event-viewer-815567702.html

If you find any errors pertaining to Roon, copy and paste them here

I couldn’t get that to work, but I did find the logs and submitted them to the log uploader.

I uninstalled everything including playlists, etc. And then reinstalled and it now works, but I no longer have my playlist that I created on Roon. So definitely not ideal if I have to do the uninstall/ reinstall dance after every Microsoft update. Too bad I am completely hooked on Roon.

You should always have a backup of your Roon database, which includes all your edits, playlists, etc. Then you can restore that if you have to do a complete reinstall, the computer dies, or whatever.

There’s something fundamentally not right if you have to do that

Hey @support,

I was wondering if you could please take a look at this, as the user is experiencing the same issue again. Any more information @Sharpe_Belote could offer?

Millions of thanks

Hello @Sharpe_Belote ,

Are you still seeing this issue following our latest release? If so, when the issue happens, does the Roon UI have issues opening or the RoonServer instance in the taskbar?

Can you please use these instructions to send logs from both RoonServer and Roon folders, upload them to the following link and let us know?

Hi Noris. So far, I am not seeing any issues. Hopefully things will work moving forward, but I will share logs per your instructions if needed.
Thanks
