Roon says it is playing 32 bit FLAC files and the signal path shows it is playing but no sound is coming out and the track is not advancing forward. I’ve tried multiple settings in both WASAPI and ASIO with the same result. I know the files are not corrupt as they are playing fine in my JRiver Media Center 32 on the same device.
Are they floating point 32bit ? If so Roon doesn’t support those only integer.
I’m not sure. How can I find out? My software conversion program doesn’t tell me anything.
Hi @billhahn,
Thanks for writing in to let us know about this issue. I think the next step here is to enable some diagnostics on your account so our technical staff can get some more insight into what’s going on here.
However, before I enable this feature, I’d like to ask for your help ensuring we gather the right information.
First, can you please reproduce the issue once more and note the time at which the error occurs. Then respond here with that time, and I’ll make sure we review the diagnostics related to that timestamp.
Daniel-
Timestamp is 11:24 AM eastern time. The first 32 bit files I tried to play behaved as I previously described. Then the second set of 32 bit file I tried to play would not play at all. In fact, no files of any bit depth would play. I had to close the server and re-open to get normal files of 24 and 16 bit depth to once again play.
On a separate issue, Roon is taking 35 seconds to initially open up on my desktop (main) computer, but only a few second on my laptop. Is that normal?
Thanks.
Bill
Daniel-
Any update???
Bill
Hi @billhahn ,
Can you please upload a sample of the affected file to the link below so that we can try to reproduce on our end with it? Thanks!

Noris-
I just uploaded three 32 bit files from 3 different albums that won’t play.
Bill
Thanks for uploading those files. I was able to reproduce this issue. We’ll take this to the dev team to have them investigate.
Hi @billhahn,
Both myself and others on the tech support team have tried to play the files you supplied both in Roon and outside of Roon and they wouldn’t work. The conclusion from this is that the files themselves are damaged.
Daniel-
I find your conclusion very curious as the three files are from separate albums downloaded from separate websites, and all three of them play correctly in my JRiver Media Center 33 software. Both these facts make your conclusion very questionable.
I await your response.
Thanks.
Bill
Just to help, Roon is managing to play an album in WAV 384khz 32 bit, 2 channel to the following end points without issue
Chord Poly/Mojo2 (WiFi)
FiiO R7 (WiFi)
Roon Bridge (Ethernet)
All replay correctly
My Roon Server is Rock running on a i5-8400T, 16gb RAM machine
Details of operating system you’re running Roon and JRiver on and also your DAC may hint to what’s going on.
A screen shot of your Roon signal path when trying to play a 32bit file would also help.
As @support say your music files were corrupted, did you compress them before you uploaded them.
A 32bit track can be 1.7gb and upward.
One of my downloads today was a 17gb download but uncompressed to 42gb for the album.
The ops are flac not wav files, this may account for the issue perhaps and would be more managable to upload. Normally 32bit are Wavs never seen a 32bit flac file in the wild but I am sure they do exist as he’s downloaded them.
Yeah I saw the flac and presumed 32/192 flac. However, my sources could not find anything in this.
Well, I could but I’m not paying $4 for some electronic noise (not music, just noise).
I thought if Roon can handle 32/384 WAV, the 32/192 flac shouldn’t be a problem. But you never know. Could do with the OP mentioning where they get there 32 bit files from.
Gentlemen-
I would love to respond to these insights immediately but I’m on an exploratory vacation in Greenland through mid September and will need a few recovery days to respond upon arrival home. Does that work for everybody?
Bill
Hi @billhahn,
No problem at all - we’ll be here when you’re ready to pick things back up. Enjoy the exploration in the meantime!
