Daniel - same issue here. In my case the Roon now also goes whitescreen on me. I’ve been searching other threads on the whitescreen to no avail, but thge Zone drop out most prevalent
Hi @Joseph_Parvey,
I split your post into its own thread so Roon support can investigate this further.
To aid them, can you please share a few screenshots of what this looks like on your end?
Do you by any chance have any VPNs running when this happens?
Carl - let me first preface by saying that we have tested our switches and router extensively for issues, and in the course of troubleshooting (this took place over a month ago) determined a few network drops that had shorts on a pair or two of twisted wire. Those issues were eliminated, and the Netgear M4250 AVB network switch was actually switched out when it became suspect (it was determined to be OK, however the new one remains)
As soon as we play a second zone, playback stops, the second image of squiggly Roon icon sists thinking for 45 seconds to a minute and a half, and often will come back minus any zones, which then repopulate after a couple minutes.
I suppose it is worth mentioning that we have been using Roon for 4-5 years, I have had nine zones grouped at a time, and have had at least a dozen zones playing at once with different music - all mixed, DSD, 24 Bit Audio, 16Bit, etc.
In this third image I had tried three zones - all streamed tracks from Qobuz, so no real network contention issues here. 1Gig/10Gb network mix, no music playing from NAS (QNAP 10Gb fiber link direct to M4250 switch). I have been able to play DSD64 to a six-zone group previously.
Thanks!
Hi @Joseph_Parvey,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. I noticed you mention using a M4250 switch which is a managed switch. We recommend using unmanaged switches with Roon. Can you try switching this out with an unmanaged switch to see if this improves things?
Daniel, there are no specific settings to this switch that would cause interference. This managed switch and others just like it have been utilized in our infrastructure here for over four years driving multiple zones with multiple endpoints without issue - until the last month and a half. This behavior is what caused me to suspect the switch was malfunctioning, and yet the replacement switch with base settings and then configured (all configurations were to do with Fiber SFP’s to the NAS, behavior was the same) with and without Fiber in the mix.
Hey @Joseph_Parvey,
While I certainly understand your position, ruling out any network interference is a crucial step in the process. When you replaced the switch, did you replace it with another managed switch?
Without testing a simplified network setup, with a basic ethernet connection from your server to your primary router, and to a zone ideally, it’ll be more difficult to pin down a solution for you.
Are you running multiple subnets within your local network as well? Can you confirm that all your Roon devices are on the same subnets, and do not have IPs changing between other subnets?
So our audio network is flat, only the cameras and POS are subnetted out. In addition, I have moved all the Roon devices to an unmanaged AGS1024 switch - so no POE (or fiber)
Hey @Joseph_Parvey,
Thanks for the follow-up. We’re seeing a few different machines running Roon Server at this point, are you seeing this issue across multiple machines?
We’d be happy to take another look if you’d like to provide a timestamp, let us know.
Hey Ben, let’s look at 11:38 - 11:40, 09/21/2024 this morning. We were playing one or two zones and it all just stopped. Same thing just happened now at ~14:55 09/21/2024
Hey @Joseph_Parvey,
Per my previous response, we’re seeing multiple machines running Roon Server, can you be more specific as to which device was being used at this time? Jumping between servers might be causing some issues in itself - I’d remain on the same machine while we continue to troubleshoot.
