Thing is, i have a couple of Roon servers and utilize them all on regular basis.
Whenever i have selected a different Roon Core (still think this is better name than Server) the iPad based client display a seemingly random port for Roon ARC. The one displayed above is NOT functional, NOT chosen by me nor the one i have configured in my router.

Of course it fails, until i re-enter the correct port, configured since Roon ARC was introduced. This is not a true support case, i know what to do to make sure ARC works, but it is a mystery to me why the port seems to change by random, due to server choice…

Thanks for the report @Mikael_Ollars, we’ll share your findings with Arc development.

That said, this is almost certainly from the use of multiple Servers. Roon ARC stores its port configuration per Server, not as a global client setting. When you switch Servers on your iPad, the ARC port shown is whatever that specific Server has saved, which may be:

  • A randomly auto-assigned port from when ARC first set itself up on that server
  • A stale port from a previous configuration that was never manually corrected
  • Simply never configured on that core, so Roon picked something arbitrary

What happens if you select the same port number no matter the Server selected?

Do you have static IPs for each of your servers?

Thanks for the explanation Benjamin!
Since ARC is a “monogamous” relationship i rarely change the port forwarding, meaning my phone and tablet almost always is synced to my main Roon Server.

If i have reason to test something specific i clear Roon ARCon one of my mobile clients, re-configure port forwarding on the router and re-sync to the current Roon Server on that mobile device.

Your explanation makes sense though, and i understand better why this seemingly random port surface now and then.
