Describe the issue

* RoonServer on QNAP crashed during NAS reboot (should be resilient to this)
* Backup exists (6.1GB, dated Jan 24, valid format with `_roon_backup_` marker)
* UI restore function fails with “backup not found” even when backup is in correct location
* No command-line restore tool available
* This represents data loss despite having proper backups

Describe your network setup

fiber (Vexus ISP), tplink switches, pfsense router, wired connection from qnap nas (Roon on NAS). I finally was able to sign in but the roon core (that was working fine the day before) lost all files/database/albums/playlists. and started up like it was a new install. backup fails.

Did you only have a single backup?

Hi @Richard_Kern,

Thank you for the detailed description and for providing the timestamp — that’s very helpful.

At this point, we want to clarify that the behavior you’re describing, where an existing and valid backup is not detected by Roon during restore, is a known issue that our R&D team is actively investigating.

We understand how concerning this is, especially when backups are in place but cannot be restored, and we agree that this should not result in data loss.

For now:

  • Please do not modify or delete the existing backup files
  • If possible, keep a copy of the backup stored safely outside the NAS (e.g. another machine or external storage)

We’ve shared your report and details with the R&D team as part of the ongoing investigation. Once we have an update or next steps to recommend, we’ll follow up here.

Thank you for your patience while we work through this.
