rooNuimo – best Roon controller ever

We’re also in opinion sync. I have it on my desk and find myself idly wheeling a wheel that does nothing but is pleasing nonetheless…

Exciting times indeed. When I am in the study (like today) I only listen to albums and just turn the music volume up and down at the start of each album.
(I do not use volume leveling)

I’m not a fan of volume levelling either and am something of a volume fiddler. Can’t imagine this will improve that situation. Am already wondering if one is enough…

Best not say that I have one in the living room as well then
But it did take me 3 months to succumb to calling (or at least that is how long I had to wait to receive it as a Christmas present)

why are you guys against volume leveling?

I have always found volume levelling takes away from the music, don’t know why, it just does.
I have tried multiple times but the drop in volume is too much for me and hen I put the volume level up it is not quite the same.

I prefer to a roll the volume on the Nuimo :grinning:

I guess I just figure someone goes for a hot/cold level overall for a reason. At least some of the time. It also gets messy if you switch genres/dynamic ranges some. A loudness wars mixed track followed by a well recorded classical piece is hard to level sensibly…

Edit Good question BTW @RobOK

yes to me that is the whole point to turn it ON!

What i don’t like is i change zone combinations a lot and whenever you make a new Group (which cant be saved) the Volume Leveling gets turned off

Maybe when I get my Numio i will join you and turn off leveling so i can use the knob more!

Rob it will be a welcome to the party moment.
Sometimes the level difference is crazy so I understand wanting levelling active.
I only use it now when I occasionally put a playlist on

I almost exclusively use Playlists

I have a black one in the lounge and a white one in the study. Plus I have 3 rooDials and 2 OSMC remotes on ropieee. All work wirelessly and non directional. Oh and rooWatch, which is fast becoming a habit to use too

Well I understand the wanting to use volume leveling 100% in that case

Having discovered that there’s a general node library for programming one of these yourselves am even more tempted by a second unit.

Life is too busy for that at the moment, but that would be fun

Ok so my Nuimo arrived safe and sound, So whats the best version of Pi to use and what do i need to install on it and how?

BTW, I’m a newbie to the world of Pi so a general understanding and bullet point instruction would be very usefull!

You can use anything 3b and later. Personally I’m using rpi zero w 2 on my nuimo’s and zero WK’s on my dials. No issues so far

Suggest you also look at the pdf files on the downloads page for rpi matrix options

Good to know, have ordered one to avoid taking up one of my spare RPi 4s thanks…

The pi zero w used to be so cheap now more than the 3b I think

@cereal_killer the “install” to a Raspberry Pi is really all about burning the right “image file” that contains the full operating system to a micro SD Card. If that’s done properly you just pop it into the RPi and fire it up. Pis come in various shapes and sizes and the big (RPi 4) ones are now nigh on impossible to get hold of. @wizardofoz points out that he runs the remote extension on a Pi Zero W 2 with no issues so far. The advantage here is that they are significantly cheaper and still available in the UK, which should be good for you. I’ve just ordered this Pi Zero and this case for just over £30 which should do the job.

For burning the card I suggest that you read “Preparation of the SD Card” in these instructions, am happy to answer questions if you have more

Good luck

So I got restless last night and decided to put the controller into action with a spare Pi. Suffice to say that I like it very much and have ordered another one already.
