Dear Carl-Werner Oehlrich,
first of all thanks a lot for inventing these really helpful ROON extensions. Perfect approach!I installed rooExtend on an Raspberry Pi3 2GB and purchased one lifetime licence for rooUPnP to be able to connect my Pro-Ject T2 W turntable to ROON. Installation had been really easy to execute and both are visible under ROON extensions (rooExtend Licence Manager Version 3.4.0 and rooUPnP Version 1.2.4).
All extensions seem to run properly and the turntable does easily find my other UPnP devices (e.g. WiiM Amp, WiiM Sound or Canton Smart Connect 5.1) but the Pro-Ject T2 W does neither find rooUPnP nor does rooUPnP see the turntable. What’s going wrong. What shall I do to support connection setup?
Thanks a lot
Roland
Hi Roland, worth while digging into Pro-Ject T2W limitations (which are not obvious) it may be - it can’t physically connect, hope I am wrong.
My experience with T2W was nothing but disappointing. Device was purchased on promise of its fantastic minimalist design , connectivity , hirez streaming capability and all in one box design and reviews praizing its ADC stage as best available in this class of devices (ADC argument was true). Idea was similar to yours - stream HiRez 24/48 vinyl into HQPlayer and use the full power of HQPlayer DSP.
Reality was bitter - it required some tweaks to connect with HQPlayer upnp (i would not remember now, it was almost a year ago) well at least that connection was possible - but than I learned , to my utmost surprise, that some ProJet idio… , ah apologies, genious - decided that 24/48 streaming is only possible for hardcoded subset of hardware decided by ProJect, and for all the rest - if anything - please be happy with not very good MP3 stream. Needless to say the whole set up sounded like overcompressed poor internet radio.
Bluntly shocked by the outragious redicule of its software design I’ve sent device back with a full refund. Sad story
i really dreamt of that set up to work…
PS : BTW, in this universe of roon extensions, is this rooupnp to play sources via roon? i thought rooplay is for external sources via roon and rooupnp is to stream roon to upnp devices ?
Dear Igor, thanks for fast reply. I thought rooUPnP would be for “receiving”. Anyway, it does not work with the Pro-Ject T2W. rooPlay will neither work with it - it does not have a USB output. Therefore I will as well send the device back. Roland
